Does anyone know what % rear tint the US model SUV's come with from the factory? I think they look fine like that.

I am planning on just getting the rear tinted on my TL to avoid the law trouble and I would rather not get the front tinted than very light.

If anyone has pics of their tint like that post up please. My car is AM.

I didn't think any cars come with factory tint? Just SUV's and maybe minivans?

great thread, ive always wondered this too. its 20% huh? a lot of ppl recommend 35%, so is the SUV factory tint darker?

My wife has an '06 Honda Pilot. We had the front side windows tinted to match the other windows. The tint shop used 35% and it matched perfectly.

My wife's Pilot had 35% all around and since they passed the new law in IL, I'm going to have the fronts done in the same %.

I recall our cars having a very light 75% tint on the windows. This becomes an issue in states where 35% is the legal tint because when you put 35% on top of the stock 75% and you get metered by the cops it will read lower than 35.

But that's not why they don't come tinted from the factory. It's because the states have widely varying tint laws. Some states are basically no tint (NY, RI), some states no tint on the front, but the back is OK (IL, CA), some states allow tint all around, but different amounts (AZ, FL (20%?), NC (35%)). It's, literally, all over the map.

Acura can't make 50 different models with tint for each state law. The original question ("y dont tl's have any tint from factory?"), was stupid if you did even the slightest bit of reading on window tint.

Regarding factory tint, pretty much all vehicles now and days have factory glass that is around 70% - 75%. Tint makers know this and the "35%" they sell is not REALLY 35%. It's more like 38% so when you put it on, you end up at 35%.

Go look up the tech data on 3M tint and you'll see that the OE glass is factored in. I think they use an OE glass factor of something like 82% (iirc) - I did the math and posted somewhere a couple years ago and it works out spot on for the entire 3M range. Other manufactures do a similar calculation.

i was just wondering bc alot of suv's and vans like my dads Gmc envoy comes with pretty dark tints in the back.

35% is barely even noticeable - on my TL I have limo on the rear window and the back door quarter glass, 20% on the rear door windows, a limo sunstrip on the windshield and 35% on the front doors, and the fronts look just about clear
....in MO they took tinting out of the inspection process a couple years back, so they can no longer fail you for it....the front door tint is now also legal, at 35%, but LOTS of people running around with full 5% just banking on not getting stopped. More and more municipalities have meters now, though, since they figured out what a cash cow it can be. Still it's the State troopers you most have to worry about.

As for SUVs, I had my fronts done 20% over the years on my Escape, Suburban and Navigator and in each case it was a perfect match to the factory rear privacy glass.

they do a slight green tint for UV light and to reduce the load on the A/C system..... Cars are typically NOT Tinted from the factory becuase laws very state by state and SUVs typically are not subject to tint law since they are classified as trucks. Those laws appear to be changing though.
