time to repair

Does anyone have acess to the book used by the dealer to compute the time to perform a specified repair? Specifically the time to replace the Knock Sensor Wire. I was charged $588 in labor in Los Angeles. I think the time to replace is .7/hr. Any help will be appreciated.

I know nothing of repair prices/times, but I think I recall reading in a previous thread that the knock sensor wire is fairly tricky to get to on the TL. So replacing it doesn't take any time at all, but the disassembly/reassembly involved in getting to it does take a while.

Of course, I may have been dreaming this up, so don't quote me on this.

Simple math should tell you that if you think the time required is .7 hour, and they charged $588 in labor, then the labor rate is $840 an hour, which even for CA is rather exorbitant, don't you think?

Knock three times for the knock sensor thread

If you had to foot this out of pocket, I'm a bit puzzled why you would be paying for such a repair on a car less than a year old that's under warranty.

That's a very good question. I wish I had thought of it. If you read the link I gave above, you would know that the only time they charge for this is if the wire was damaged by causes other than normal wear and tear, like an animal eating it or something. I assumed this was the case, but I could be wrong by asuming facts not in evidence.

flambe Can you tell us the exact cause of the damage to the wire?

Knock Sensor

The dealership claims that the cause was a rodent. They gave me the "parts" but upon inspection by myself, and my neighbor, who is an electrical engineer, we could find no evidence that it was a rodent.

Been dealing with Acura corporate on the issue. Also have filed a complaint with the NHTSA
