I was impatient and didnt spend much time working on my cutoff when I did the ZKW-R install, I had just spend like 8hrs working on the headlights so I was tired and it was starting to rain... my cutoff was decent, but the step didnt match up with the 2 projectors, Im gonna go back in and mess with it eventually. Moral- do it right the first time

Excellent thread, lots of great information here!
I'm new to caring about output as I had 6K everything until recently. DDM tuning bulbs turned purple so I ended up going with
regular Osram 66240, very bright but too yellow,
then CBI, awesome but expensive and didn't realize HOW much brighter they were,
then Morimoto, had same issue with one bulb cutting off after a few minutes and the color and output weren't great
then another set of DDM, color was decent but output sucked
and now back to CBI. If you're serious about your lenses and sharp cutoffs and all that fun stuff, do yourself a favor and spend the $190 for the brightest bulbs you can buy. Get the Osram SVS if you want the yellowish look, CBI for the whitish look. VERY similar output.
Great thread to help you decide which

Head on, I'm sure I could work on a more defined cut-off but I'm happy with how it is now, until I have to re open my headlights.

Rockstar - can you send me an email at wayaboveme@yahoo.com or direct me to a conversation you've had on the forum about your cracked dash? Wifey's 2006 TL also now has cracked dash here in SW FL. Thanks! Dewey Dog

I've been using morimoto 5k just for a few months (less than 3 months) and one of the bulbs just took a shit on me about a month ago. When I say they took a shit on me, I mean that my passenger side bulb was at fault here. I would turn on the headlights and after approximately 2 minutes of my headlights being on, the passenger side bulb would just shut off.
I turn the headlights to the OFF position and turn it back ON (or AUTO during night) and both light bulbs power up just fine. Again, about 2 minutes later the driver side bulb would just shut off. I can switch my headlights off and back on all night and the passenger side bulb will fire up every time, but than it will also shut off after 2 minutes of use. My drivers side was just fine.
First I thought it was a ballast or a ignitor at fault. I removed my headlights and swapped over each part from my known good headlight to trouble shoot. First I swapped ballasts. Problem still occured. I swapped ignitors. Problem still occured. Last I swapped bulbs. Passenger bulb stayed lit the whole time. So I narrowed it down to the bulb.
So now I'm just using the 1 good morimoto 5k bulb and 1 offbrand 5k bulb. I plan on purchasing 81522+ bulbs from TRS in the future.
This is just to let you know my personal experience with the mori 5k bulbs.. Maybe I was just unfortunate because everyone else seems to say they are very good quality bulbs.
I used to think they were the shit when I first got them. Especially since I only paid like $45 + shipping for them. Now I wish I just bought the 81522+ to begin with.

you get the sharp cutoff from using lens spacers...but I've found that the TL has a very tight projector ring and I was never able to fit more than 1 spacer...and even when I did that to both, one was sharper than the other.
CBI is the most gorgeous bulb you can get, but the 85122+ is definitely the brightest with a hint of yellow. Definitely no comparing quality bulbs to anything aftermarket IMO.
