For those intrested in a sub

I just dropped a 10'' JL audio W7 sub with 500 watt amp. God it kicks the shit out of my stock sub. At first I didnt think one 10 could push so much. Two of my friends have subs also one of them has three 15'' eclipse subs and my other firend has 2 12'' subs in his nissan sentra. This one ten knocked both of them out of the park, in quality and sound. I pulled up to the park and they tought I had three 12'' or something. They almost shit a brick when they found out i was only pushing one sub.

How'd you accomplish the installation? Was it just through the exisintg wiring?

Thanks for the reply. I've been considering upgrading for a little more oomph....I just didnt want to chance "mucking things up" when it's such a nice system to start with......just a little underpowered for my taste.

I am assuming you also replaced the stock speakers? Did you replace them all? What did you replace them with?

Somi2002,

When you said that they tapped in, do you mean that they found the preamp signal or did they use a LOC on the sub speaker outputs?

If they found the preamp signal and can say where and what color the wires are, I would be most grateful.

for those of you who are worry about "messing up" the surround sound system...just for you to know...low base wave has nothing to do with it location...so...the surround sound will still be surrounded no matter how large or where the subwoofer is...the only thing you might worry about is that the base is SOOOOo loud that you can't hear anything else...then again..you can tune that....

With just the stock system turned up a bit with moderate base my back dask rattles like thers an earthquake going on. I can imagine how bad it would be if there were an upgraded sub/ amp in the picture???????

Can you replace the stock speakers without losing 5.1? With the sound all the way up on 40 its really not that loud.

Did you use a custom enclosure or replace the factory sub?

The 5.1 DVD-A works great. I got MB quarts to replace the two 1'' fronts I didnt upgrade my 3 1/2'' or my 6''. The sub is tapped into my audio system so there for does not affect the other speakers when turned up. The 8'' stock sub was removed so the sound could pass through to the passanger cabin. The total cost was $1600 thats with JL 4 guage wiring, 1 JL10W7, 1 500/1 AMP, and A new batt. Pic to come as soon as I find my camra.

sorry i'm not sure. All I know is that if I ever want to take the sub out its easy and it dosen't fu*k up the rest of the wires. Or the quality of the sound.

You should have it fixed by the dealer, they should replace new one for free. By the way, which dealer did you get your car?

I have to get more bass in my car. I have the newest car out of all my friends, and recently for my friends birthday, we him two 10's for his shitty 95 vovlo sedan, and that car has a better sound then my TL, and it pisses me off that while i can beat the crap out of him speed wise and style interior wise, he can still mock me with his sound excuse... cant wait to make my sound mod and be triumphant until someone gets a better faster car then me. :-D

He put a JL dub7, with a 500/1 amp in the TL, lol which already rattles. For those of you who have no idea how powerful a JL W7 10inch Sub is, it's probably the most expensive and best sounding subs out there, and it also hits the hardest. My friend had the exact same setup, except with a 12inch W7, in his ford expedidition, and his rear brake light, rear window washer, and rear defroster all got disconnected from the amount of power created from the sub, besides that, the whole car started rattling all over. The sub is personally too powerful, my friend would keep the sub @ 0, everwhere we went it was already too loud. This is what a typical installation looks like, and the sub probably takes up most of the space in the trunk of the TL. It sounds like he got some professional installation, so there should be a nice box in there, with good wiring.

It's obvious your knowledge of car audio, or at least subwoofers, is quite limited.

Maybe hes just referring to the JL Audio line. The W7 is afterall their best SW. Granted a 10" isnt that big, but I'm sure the W7 is alow better than the W3s in my trunk. (Civic, TL still on order)

i was thinking of doing something like this for my AM... i use to have a Mazda 626 99, with 3 12" Kicker Solo Barics, with highs and tweeters. Meaning you could hear me comming from about 4 blocks away, and the beauty of it that (not braggin) my car was one of the few that you could hear VOICES and small detail sounds CLEAR....not like these "donks" and "Box's" that are out there, that all you hear is the trunk rattles. but back to my point.. i am done with that. "BAD FOR HEARING" trust me I noticed my self sayin "huh" ALOT!!!! its been year since then.. and i hear better. But i needed a little more. so i was thinking on this.. nice and sharp clear sound...

http://www.bazooka.com/image_closeup.asp?id=49

they are pre-amplefied, all thats needed is the audio taken from sub wire and a power source. which any professional installation place can take care of. And i dooubt that it will void any warranty. All in all, its just basically maybe stripping or disconecting the sub wire, run it to this BAZOOKA... and power. nothing else. So i dont see how its messing with the 5.1 since its doing the same as stock. but with more BAZooka.

I don't know how much that Bazooka costs (I have one of the older models in my ES300) or how much your price range is but if you're looking for sound quality, go with a Resonant Engineering XXX, Image Dynamics ID Max, Adire Audio Brahma, Elemental Designs A Series, or if you're really out to spend some money, you could always get a JL Audio W7.

A few other things...

"Highs" and "Tweeters" are generally the same thing. Tweeters are the small speakers that reproduce the "High" sounds.

Also, 3 Solo Barics would be far and away from anything I would consider to reproduce sound accurately. Those subs are by and large meant for SPL use.
