I have an 06 TL 6MT with 68k miles. Next month is my last payment. I have been happy with it, but a new car is always a temptation.
Would a brand new 2014 TL next month be a better choice than a 2015 TLX a few months from now?
2014 TL is a mature design and with the end of the line, I could probably get a decent deal on one.
I'm a bit scared of buying first generation, first year car with a 9 speed automatic transmission, especially since Acura is known for transmission problems. It usually takes them a couple of years to work out problems.
Looks are not my priority, that said, TLX looks better to me.

Keep your car. Pay yourself every month for the next several years. Just do occasional little things to your '06 every once in awhile to keep the love alive. Mild drop and wheels and it will put any 4G to shame looks-wise. It's still a baby at 68k.
the only reason why I would move to a 4G would be because of the superior driving dynamics and not for the looks.
I also agree to save the extra cash, unless you absolutely needed a new car....in this case, you really dont.
there's a lot of life to be had in that 68k mile TL.
and you have every right to be scared of a first year model!!

Thanks gents. I was also thinking that the 3rd option to keep it for another couple of years might be the right one after all.
Maybe in two or three years I'll pick up that 2014 TL with 30k miles and get another 8 years out of it.

Agree with all responses above- your TL is barely broken in. Getting the loan paid off is a big accomplishment- don't ruin it by keeping yourself in payments on a new car. Nothing beats no (or limited) debt.

Id keep the 06. I paid mine off a couple years ago and it felt great not having to worry about a car payment anymore. 68k miles really isnt much to write home about. Like others have seguested, do some mods to keep things fresh/enjoyable with the car. Thats the route I went when I paid mine off insted of getting a new car and Iv been happy.
I would definitely go for the TLX. I'd take a risk on the transmission because it's got a warranty, and maybe I'd get an extended warranty too.
Why would you give up a payment-free life for another payment? I have to say that I loved the loaner 4th gen TL SH-AWD that I had for a few weeks. It is so much nicer! Sold me on AWD!

Take the money you would be paying for payments and save it. That way you will have a hefty down payment ready when you are ready to pull the trigger. I've been doing this ever since I paid off my car years ago so when I'm ready, I can put down a nice chunk of change when the time comes. I keep my cars for a while and next year my TL will be 10 years old so I'm due for a new car at some point. Personally, hoping that there will be a 5G Type-S or it's equivalent....

Along with all the reasons mentioned above - a newly paid off car typically also means less property/excise tax and lower insurance. All incremental savings in your pocket.
