Re: Acura Introduces Powertrain Warranty for 2006 Model-Year Vehicles

Dear Acura Dealer Principal, Parts Manager, and Service Manager,

We at American Honda remain confident in our ability to consistently deliver high-quality, reliable vehicles to our clients in a competitive market.

To demonstrate this confidence, American Honda is adding a six-year or 70,000-mile powertrain limited warranty to all 2006 model-year Acura vehicles. This warranty is in addition to our standard four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty.

This powertrain limited warranty is unprecedented for American Honda, demonstrating our commitment to your clients and our willingness to stand behind our vehicles. This warranty covers any defects in material or workmanship on powertrain components, including the engine, transmission, and front- and rear-wheel-drive systems, under normal use. The powertrain limited warranty information has been added to the 2006 Acura warranties booklets for all models.

and scroll halfway down. Can anyone from Honda confirm this?

The original poster at hondapilot.com works at an Acura dealership, so I'm sure it's reliable.

^^^not really...basically they are extended the warranty for powertrain ONLY, another 20,000 miles....which, if you car has gone problem free for the first 50K, wont be much of an issue for the next 20...i dont think this was done for any reason except marketabililty...b/c in the end, the car is still a honda, and hondas are pretty damn reliable up to 150K+

I hear powertrain warrenty is a good marketing tool. Most of things break down are usually electronics and other parts that are not covered by powertrain warrenty. What's the reason for only giving extra 20,000 mile for extra 2 years.

Gotta ease into more potential liability regardless of how minimal it seems upfront.

They have to match the Gs power train warranty and that's the reason for it. (I believe the G is bumper to bumper 60k and powertrain 70k) The G is adding more features for 06 and if they wanted to bump up the power, they could easily up the compression ratio on the VQ from 10.3:1 to 11:1. That would probably make it a 300 hp 280 torque engine with ease.

As for being pretty reliable for up to 150K, that was old school hondas, not the 2G acuras. With competition for a price point, do not expect the car to last that long. The engine maybe, but the tranny is still unproven, and the brakes have been an issue. I do not mind doing a 50K brake job, but it seems that these things need one a year.

Maybe they will back off from selling the extended warranties now. They did not try to sell one on the G they do on the TL. That's the last thing you want to hear. Sure you got a good price and now how about another 1000 bucks for a warranty.
