lol I know i barely have a year with my TL but with a M5 i would suggest you really think about it dude. My boy bought a m5 recently and he's already spent more than $3000 just on maintenance. And about gas, damm that would be my whole pay check almost the way how i drive lol. So if you got the money then do you, but if you're satisfied with ur TL why the heck? Once you mod it i'm sure you will appreciate that car even more.

I have 2002 e39 530i sport (sport suspension, sport seats, sport steering wheel, bmw branded bbs wheels) and it's performance/feel is something so special, can't be put into words. feels so much better behind the wheel compared to my TL.

BUT at 90,000 miles there has been a lot of maintanece/repairs needed (thermostate, radiator, fan cluth, fan blade, alternator, torque converter $2000, random rubber hoses, all rubber joints in front and rear suspension, any maybe some other things i forgot) luckily everything except for the radiator, fan blade and fan clutch was done under certified pre-owned coverage. but all these things start happening after 70,000 miles... and on a m5 you got to worry about the clutch (most people abuse them) and I remember reading that when, not if, the e39 starts having VANOS problems, it's about $9,000 to have it replaced....

SO it's definately a great car, kind of like more awesome 530i sport, but also it's going to be costing you some money...

side note: i also had a 2004 330Ci M sport with SMG, but I sold that one at 62,000 miles before things started to go bad and got the TL. i.e. SMG pump failure on a regualr e46 (non-M3) results in a $8,200 SMG replacement....

Fun cars when everything works on them.....

Its a great car i had an e39 528i 2 years ago but the maintenance was a killer. Even if the car is completely sound mechanically one day little things go wrong and screw everything up.Definitely a great car though good luck either way.

I had a 2011 Base with Tech Package as a loaner earlier this week and thought it was a great car...aside from the grill that I'm not a fan of. The car drove great, felt smoother, more room and was a little quieter than my 3G.

4th gen SHAWD is a fun car to drive and definitely handles better than the 3G plus it has features the 3G doesn't. However, the ugliness eliminated it for me. If you can deal with the looks, then sure why not?
