Well a major difference is that 06 is the last year a non-type S manual was available. 07 was the refresh with a new gauge pod and I think slightly different electronics package. I'd avoid 04 simply 'cause of it being the first production year. IIRC 06 they put in a software change to the TC that limits torque in first gear, especially as the wheel is turned.

I've had an '04 NBP 6MT with no problems (bought at 72k miles, it traveled from San Francisco, CA to Charleston, SC twice without any hiccups whatsoever), traded it in @ 106k for my '08 CBP 6MT TL-S @ 42k miles. I'd say any year is fine, if you're looking for performance/luxury, the best options are either '04-'06 6MT's or '07-'08 6MT TL-S's. Everything past that is purely preference (navi, no navi, aspec or not, colors, etc.) Good luck in your purchase! I'd start looking soon if you plan to purchase a 6MT TL, they are hard to come by.

Performance is not a big issue. It has to be automatic.

Is there really a big difference after 07+? as far as looks go? is it worth buying an 07+ just because its a little updated?

07/08 would be best or a low mileage 04-06. Great cars even tho I've been getting the hitch as of late to sell mine

I would recomend looking for an 07-08 for a few reasons. This is from wiki and should give you some good info:

The 2007 Acura TL features a slightly revised exterior as well as a revised interior with a new steering wheel, redesigned gauges, and footwell lighting, in addition to new interior and exterior colors. The 2007 TL (non Type-S) received suspension changes to improve ride comfort. Also new for the 2007 model year were LED turn signal repeaters on the side mirrors and fog lamps in the bumper. Prior to 2007, the fog lamps were integrated into the headlight housing; Daytime Running Lights now occupy that space (Canadian models have had DRLs there rather than fog lamps since 2004).

TL with navigation models sport a new rear view camera with image displayed on the navigation screen as well as XM NavTraffic. In addition to the new standard auxiliary audio jack, the sound system is now MP3/WMA compatible and offers Dolby Pro Logic II decoding and speed-sensitive volume compensation. The manual transmission option had been dropped from the base TL due largely to extremely low sales (roughly 1 out of 40 TLs sold across America were equipped with a manual gearbox).

The most notable revision is the return of the Type-S edition of the TL. The Acura TL Type-S received the Acura RL's 3.5-liter V6 engine tuned to 286 horsepower (213 kW) and 256 lb·ft (347 N·m). of torque with either a 5-speed automatic with F1 style paddle shifters or a 6-speed manual transmission. Exterior differences include quad exhaust pipes, restyled rear lamps and front fascia, lip spoiler, wider side sills, Brembo brakes, dark silver 10-spoke wheels, a "black chrome" grille rather than the standard glossy grille, and exclusive Type-S badging, plus an exclusive new color option, Kinetic Blue Pearl. The interior has Type-S badging on the steering wheel and headrests, more highly bolstered front seats, two-tone seats (only with the Ebony/Silver interior), metal racing pedals, carbon fiber trim, and red interior lighting (as opposed to blue in the base TL). Touch screen navigation is standard and the suspension has been firmed up.

Get a low mileage 06 to save money, and it's been in production for a few years to avoid the potential bugs of the earlier years, such as 'buttprints' in the leather of the 04 MY, and some 04's have had some transmission issues. I'm sure a lot of 04's are great cars though. The 07-08 cars have a nicer gauge pod and the3 spoke steering wheel, but it shouldn't dissuade you from getting an earlier 3rd generation car. Mine is an 06, and has been perfect since new. Just be aware of the potential of a transmission problem in those cars without a 3rd and 4th gear transmission switch change (see the thread by I Hate Cars regarding this. Make sure the car shifts well, get it, and then get the transmission fluid changed and change the switches right after you buy it. It should then be reliable for quite a few years.

Nothing huge. The most noticeable thing for me was the side mirrors got turn signals. If you're going auto, I'd stick to the newer years. IIRC the auto had a sensor issue that needs them replaced every 50k miles or you risk 3rd gear. I think the newer models fixed it, but I'm sure someone will chime in with the details. (6mt owner so I didn't follow that closely)
