THICKER Steering wheel for Type S?

I'm wondering if there are any upgrade options as far as the streering wheels go. I love the heavy feel of the Type-S steering but the wheel itself is a little larger than you would find in most cars of it's class and it's kind of thin for it's size. (Infiniti G35 has a smaller/thicker wheel)

Are there any options out there? I remember the 04-06 models had the A-Spec steering wheel but what about the Type S?? (Even the new TL's have a thicker and smaller steering wheel)

BTW I still want to keep the airbag and controls and etc.. so don't go telling me to get a Sparko wheel

you can re-wrap your current steering wheel.
an upholstery shop can do that for you.

all they do is wrap it with moar material making it thicker.

I'm guessing there wrap it under the leather right?? and then stitch the leather back together?

I'll give them a try, thanks.

they can do it however you want it done with a new type of leather, leather similar to factory, preforated leather, etc. It just depends on how much you want to spend.

I took a different approach with one of my old cars that came with a decently-thick steering wheel-- I bought a wider (truck-spec) leather steering wheel cover (Wheelskins brand?) and laced it over the existing material. The width of the leather cover stretched and the gaps closed perfectly on lacing, so it looked and felt like a factory leather wheel, but the wheel rim was thicker.

This approach is easier than removing the steering wheel, unwrapping it, etc.

The having a shop wrapping it for you idea is going to cost something like $500 if not more, as it requires removing and re-installing the steering wheel and whatnot. I use the wheelskin and it costs like $35 and 1 hour of your time. It came out quite nicely.

It's too bad that they never made an a-spec steering wheel for the 07-08's. I just installed one in my 06 and the extra thickness has a nice feel to it. Not to mention the added visual appeal with the blue stitching and perf leather at 3 & 9.

I was just wondering the same thing. I'm going to have to check out wheelskins.

Can't confirm if it will work, however feel a 09-11 tsx wheel, they are thick with superior leather feel and smaller for that sporty feel.

I concur with Will Y, I had a wheelskins on my 97 civic (it gave an extra 5-6 years of life to the original steering wheel). After I bought my TL, I thought the steering wheel felt too "thin" or flimsy. So i remembered wheelskins, was one of the first things i bought for it. Now it feels solid, the way it should have felt from the factory. Anyway, I can vouch that a wheelskin will more than likely give you what you're looking for. Added thickness to the wheel, now it has a better grip, and is preserving the original leather steering wheel, and most important it looks good.

Don't know if OP found a solution, but just wanted to share.

Dont know the exact mm or thickness that it added, but YOU CAN feel the difference.

Not sure this is official A-Spec, but I've seen it written up as is several times. Regardless... An '07-08 optional wheel.

Many of us have had our steering wheels wrapped by Dallas Custom Steering wheel...Don does a freaking PHENOMENAL job and can increase the thickness by up to 1/8" an inch.

IMHO, EVERYONE should get this done. You spend EVERY second of your drive touching the wheel...why not make it a priority?

IIRC, $350. Price varies depending on the level of detail, so bear in mind that reflected the thickest padding, two-tone leather w/ perforations, and two-tone stitching. WELL worth it.

O/T: You still looking to vinyl the roof? Might have a free weekend coming up.

Yep I'm still looking to vinyl the roof. I might bring my GF along, she lives down in Roosevelt and between having the kids some weekends, and prior engagements other weekends, I think I owe her some time.
