They took my under body splash guard when I got an oil change

Hello Acurazine. I just became a member and now i need some help So i went to get an oil change the other day and where the oil drain plug is, theres a plastic splash guard of some kind with a deep hole (10 mm) in it. I guess they took it when they did the oil change and i hadn't noticed until recently when i was looking under the car and noticed it was missing..does anyone have the Acura (or Honda) part number to it? or know where i can get it?

You don't need to remove any under covers to change the oil

The ATF change you need to remove the transmission cover, though.
Whats the year of your car?

Correct, I didn't take it off when i had previously done the oil change. But i didnt feel like doing that time and took it to the shop. It's an 2005 Acura TL. It's a sort of skinny pieces of plastic with a 10 mm bolt holding it and is reinforced with either one or two strips of metal.

I would stay away from that shop since they don't know wtf they are doing, like everyone else said the only time you need to remove it during ATF drain and fill.

You think you got screwed? Check out this link about an audi and a quick lube place. A $1500 oil change.

They seemed pretty stubborn; like they couldn't do anything about it. So I'll just let it go. I just won't go there anymore.

Oh no, I don't think I got screwed over. At the end of the day, it's a piece of plastic. It sucks but I'll live lol. I would just like to purchase it somewhere or; at least know the part number to it. I just don't want anything missing on the car

That's why I always watch like a hawk whenever my car is being worked on. I've caught them doing things like put my wheels back on with the impact wrench without torquing them.

Sometimes they don't like it, but tough!

There are no shields which need to be removed to change the oil so don't understand what was removed or what's missing.

My transmission under cover has been off for about 2 years now since the bolt holding the metal strip rusted through or something.

so you know which platic cover im talking about..It has a 10mm bolt holding it towards the middle and two plastic clips at the front where it connects with the underbody splash shield directly under the engine/tranny.

my HR trust them brought them a brand new VW jetta she just got for an oil change since its quicker than dealer (according to her). The result was someone forgot to put in new oil, well I guess we already know what happened next... That right!!!! they gave her the key (you are all set) and she drove off mins later boom...

Yes. A coworker took a new car there (why?) and they ended up putting on a new oil filter without making sure the old one's gasket was removed. The resulting double gasket eventually let go and her car hemorrhaged all its oil on her way home. Now she has a questionable motor in a brand new car. Maybe she'll get full life out of it, maybe it will croak early. There's also more than a few accounts of badly stripped oil pan drains as well.

If you don't DIY then seriously most dealers have specials that are almost as cheap as JL and also in the same 30 min. Any Honda dealer can do your TL as well. You may need to fend off a buch of other maintenance they try and sell you but you'll probably get an honest oil change.

Mine's off for about 1 year after I was doing some ATF refills/drains. And too lazy to put them on cause the b!tch-clips that held them were impossible to get out without just tearing them apart...so now they just sit in my garage...when weather gets warmer I might just order some new clips and put the covers back on....

^^^ to add to the above horror stories:

WTF...wow that is terrible.

My first car in high school was a beater 95 accord that I took to a quick oil place and thankfully I had a friend who was a peon at a local shop and the car was leaking oil and we finally put it up on a lift and found, for some reason, the damn oil pan bolts were VERY loose and there was oil leaking/dripping out slowly everywhere...it was scary as hell experience and since then I've never gone to any cheap oil change place ever.

you know what...at least a dealer may be better...you can get screwed still but they've got a name/rep/brand to keep and likely will help get you right...those quick lube places should never be a place for anything even an oil change...

That's the same reason mine stays off: well apart from the bolt snapping and the other half of it is still in the frame, i left it off because its so quick to do a 3x3.

I drive my front onto a 2x4s, then drain the ATF without the need to jack up my car.

I would raise hell just on principle. Get the manager, district manager, whoever it takes. They were hoping you would roll over and you did.
