Thermostat ?

My 2005 TL had a leak by the radiator blow off tube. I changed the radiator about a year ago with a Denso, so I didn't think the radiator was bad and just clamped the hose around the blow off tube. So far do not see any more leaks or signs of fluid. I am going to change the thermostat just in case this was contributing to the problem?. I have a TAMA Enterprises (Japan) WV64BC-78 replacement thermostat.. Anyone ever use this brand? or should I buy a genuine Honda replacement? Appreciate any thoughts here.

The water pump and timing belt changed about 2 years ago. Car has 90K.

Your radiator overflow tube was leaking? You clamped it to like...pinch it off? Or do you mean you clamped it to the radiator?

It was more likley your cap was leaking, though.

Anyway, I would definitely buy an OEM Acura thermostat. No idea who makes them. But I'd for sure buy it from a dealer.

I've had like 50/50 luck on aftermarket thermostats. Not worth the risk of having to do it again.

2 bottles of Honda Coolant is $40. So...not worth cheaping out on a thermostat that you're not confident in. The lost coolant and time is worth spending a little more on the thermostat.

If its just the tube from overflow bottle to the radiator that has a hole in it, replace the hose. Its going to be all of $1 or so for a foot of that from any parts store. Then you can pressure check your radiator for leaks. Then let it get to operating temperature and see if the radiator hose by the thermastat is hot or cold. That’ll show you if your thermastat is stuck closed or is opening as it should. No reason to change a good part.

Thanks for the replies. I ended changing the cap and using an OEM Acura thermostat and Honda coolant. I did not change the radiator cap back when the radiator was replaced so that could have been the problem all along. I am taking the car for a long drive so did not want to have a problem. Thanks to everyone for the help!
