Is there a way to know what next service letter will be?

I'm planning a vacation that will involve some 2,000 miles of driving in the TL. The last service was done in early June and was a B service (no number code appeared in the MID). I could dig around when I get home and find the mileage at that time if it's relevant to answering this question. What I'm wondering is whether there is any way to know what the next service code the MID will pop up should be, because I'm wondering whether it will be a good idea to get the car serviced before making the trip. About 1,100 miles of the trip will be on Interstates or Interstate-equivalents (e.g., Garden State Parkway if I take that route), and the rest will be mostly on two-lane roads or similar. For obvious reasons I'm not going to post exact dates on a public forum, but the MID will not have dinged me for the next service by the time I leave.

Anyone have any thoughts? Should I just have the oil and filter changed before I go? Or should I instead look at the oil life the weekend before I go and get it done it's below 70% under the theory that if each 300 miles is 10%, it would ding "Service Due Now" after about 2,100 miles if I were at 70%? Or should I not worry about it?

I wouldn't worry. The MID isn't a straight 3000 mile alarm clock, it does have some smarts to it.

You should be fine, but it's really up to you. I personally would say leave it. Besides - you'll still be at 10% by your equation.

Otherwise you could just change the oil now, have peace of mind for $50 - and know that you won't have to change it when you get back.

Highway miles are easy moles regards oil and other wear & tear. Get service when you get home.

Or, you could, get it on time, where ever you happen to be when the MID says,"Now!!". Honda dealers are *everywhere*.

x 2.

My car's MID doesn't signal oil changes until 6000+ miles. If the oil was changed in early June and the MID reads 30% remaining or higher, OP should be fine until at least the end of the planned 2000 mile trip.

Thanks. I think I'll just go and not worry about it based on these replies. I've never really paid close enough attention to try to get a sense for how often each 10% clicks off on the MID.

Finding a Honda dealer in rural Nova Scotia may not be so easy, however, especially with no Navi coverage!

Thanks. I see there is another in Sydney and one in Yarmouth....I suppose I could stop at the latter on the way home in the morning before taking the ferry to Maine.

I found this to be helpful for you, although it doesn't allow you to look ahead into the future it allows you to look into the past, you can see previous maintenance codes that would have come up, but didn't if you went into service to early.

Go to page 4.
