Is there a program to simulate 5.1 surround from CDs?

I've recently purchased DiscWelder so I can enjoy many hours of CD-quality sound per DVD-Audio.

One question, though. Does anyone know if there is a program available to take a conventional stereo CD and create 6 channels of simulated 5.1 surround?

Would be fun to take a regular CD, plug it into a program, and get some cool true surround sound effects out of it?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, if I am understanding things correctly, that link (and the others I've come across) are designed for semi-professional musicans wishing to record their own music into 5.1 surround. This involves some expensive (many $100's) digital mixing software and many steps. I was hoping for one program that would take a regular CD and create simulated 5.1 channels... I guess I'm hoping for too much...

The only "simulation" I know of that will take a 2 channel CD and emulate 5.1 is Dolby Pro Logic II. Unfortunately this is not something the standard head unit offers!!

I wish it were, but at the same time I also wish it would play SACD's, and MP3's as well.

Maybe in the 2005 model.....but I wouldn't hold my breath!

If you really want to try it, here's a link that points to a few freeware methods. For DVD-A, just stop at the point that you have 6 mono .WAV files and burn them to DVD-A using DiscWelder.

IMO, it's more effort than it's worth.

I hear 'ya! My wish would also be that the 2005 TL's also have the ability to play SACD's!!! I have more SACD's than DVD-A's in my collection.

....that and a integrated turn-signal on the side mirrors!
