Is there an HID conversion process?

Hello Everybody,

I've just purchased (but not received yet) an '04 TL auto with Nav. 28,000 miles, straight body for $21700.

Looking at Acura's web site, it appears that the HID lights didn't come on the TL until '06. Searching the forum, I couldn't find any threads on converting an '04 to HID lighting.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks everyone.

The '04s came standard with HIDs. (99+ TLs & '01+ CLs came with Xenons standard, that's why I love acura). Note that the 04's will not have bi-xenon headlights (bi-xenon = both low and high beams), but the will have low beam HIDs.

Congrats on your purchase! What color combination did you get? That's a good price, did you get it a dealership or from a private party?

I have a CL, but when I was given a '04 or '05 TL as a loaner, I am almost certain it did not have bi-xenons. I know they have projectors, something I wish my CL had, but I still thought the high beams were regular halogen.

You're right, I stand corrected. The '04 TLs do have bi-xenon headlights. I must have been thinking about the TSX, my bad.

Well, atleast you do not need to do a conversion since your '04 will have xenons.

Great! This is awesome that it has the HID's! On Acura's website, under the certified pre-owned, it doesn't mention HID's in the description until you get to the '06's, where it says they have BiXenon. Real happy about this!

Regarding the highbeams with HID in the '07's, I read that the "highbeams" aren't a seperate bulb at all, but simply a system where the plate for the horizontal cutoff on the low beams is mechanically moved out of the way. Is this correct?

The color combo is anthrecite (sp?) grey with the approx same color interior (don't know the name of the interior color).

I was about to turn it down because of the "fading" of the dashboard. It looks terrible. Then I found this forum and found there is a "fix" for it. So I bought it.

I got it from, well, I guess you could call it a "dealer", got it direct from American Honda! NADA black book minus 10%.

I noticed that the steering wheel looks "faded" like the dash. Is there a "fix" for that as well?

Thanks everyone!

You might want to do some reading on the technical aspects of your new ride.

http://www.hondanews.com/

Click on the Acura symbol, Archive, select Year, select model, select Technical Information or specs. The technical information section is a very good read describing many of the unique design features.

from my understanding, every 2G to 3G TL have HID low beams, the 3G's having bi-xenons. and all CL's (except the first version of the CL coupe, I believe 1997-1999) had xenon low beams.
