That is not necessarily true. You don't want to shift at 1,000; it'll bog down your engine, and you're do more harm than help. Try gradually increasing RPM instead of stomping on it. That should help a lot... I believe people here call that "not using your lead foot"

Just out of curiosity, are you also shifting into higher gears when possible?

also referring to the owner's manual they said the shifting point from 1st to 2nd shifts at 17mph, from 2nd to 3rd shifts at 27mph. is there going to make the car shift smoother. cuz i am still having trouble on shifting from 1st to 2nd, and from 2nd to 3rd. the car always shake a little bit when i shift.

As for the shaking, that's due to your shifts. If I don't shift smoothly in the Si, it'll shake a bit, too. Try to keep the engaging & dis-engaging of the clutch a little smoother during a shift.

some like it stock
They're just recommended shifting points. Our Civic Si has the exact same speeds in its owner's manual.

MPG-wise i'm not seeing any dramatic improvements regardless of driving style, although i don't make a habit out of really taking off... once in awhile though i take off
i'm maintaining 22 MPG with mostly city driving (about 60-70% time-wise) and light to moderate traffic.

350-400 a tank.
rual backroad driving 100-150 miles a day... I've been known to go through a tank a day sometimes.
All highway driving 450-500 miles.
Since April I've been averaging about 3k miles a month..... and to think that's light driving for me

I average over 24 MPG with my '04 manual for work commutes. This is through a small city and residential areas with lights, stop signs, some traffic, and varying speeds. The tires on my '04 (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus) cost a little, about 1.5 MPG city and around 2 MPG on the highway.
Best I've ever gotten for a week of commuting was in the summer with the original EL042's. One week netted 27.98 MPG - same commute as described above.
As for checking your mileage, to be really accurate and sure, do not use the on0-board MID system. Use the manual calculation method. That way you'll really know what you're getting.

This tank, though, shooting for 300 after driving 80 miles back & forth from Cresson. Really improved the MPG.

Take out the spare tire in the trunk and the jack. That should decrease the weight of the car by at least 30 pounds.
If you're driving less than 40mph, you can roll down the windows instead of running the AC. If you go over, don't roll down the windows. Although it's preferable to not run the AC at all.
Wash and wax the car, less drag helps.
Try drafting other cars. Try to coast to the light and hope it changes to green before you get there.
Do you get better mileage if you leave it on Auto vs shifting yourself? I don't know if you've got AT or MT.
Fill up half a tank instead of a full tank. I think each gallon of gas weighs something like 6.2 pounds. So half a tank is almost 50 pounds of gas.

I alway coast my ass when coming to a light or getting off the highway. Im am going to do away with the stock battery as it seems to me it weights 180 pounds!!! I was getting 22 city and 30 highway until I changed my spark plugs and now get 24 city and 33 highway. I have not even changed the oil in the car either it still has regular oil its at 40% now I am going to change it to full synthetic and we will see from there what I can get. I once went to a casino and my MID read 29 city and 44 highway!!!!! I show all my friend and they get mad with there 3.5 SE Maximas the MPG on those things suck

the TL manual will tell you they first 15 minutes are the worst- the engine is barely up to real operating temp, hot inside the cat and exhaust- drying moisture from the oil, alterrnator working to recharge the battery...
Notice all the water drops coming from other cars exhaust pipes- so is yours~
If thats all the driving you do- you need to take the car out at least once a month for an hour on the freeway just to get everything dry
the AT cars shift at 2000 on light throttle- so MT should be able to do it at 2000-2500 and get best economy
Unless your buddy is a TL expert- why listen to someone who probably doesnt even own the same car!
The owner book is your friend- compare the speeds they give to the rpm

a few cans of seafoam and new NGK Iridiium spark plugs if over 60k miles will do a major improvement in mileage

I get around 315-330 per tank driving around town...Lower if I press the go pedal a lot more. I usually get up to speed decently quick that way there is technically no fuel lost so you dont pedal the car up to speed. Kinda hard to explain but usually 1st -2nd around 3000 then the rest just gradual upshifts until I reach the speed limit. I use my AC sometimes also usually when it is humid as hell outside which it has been for the past week or so in Texas.

seafoam and a clean air filter for sure.
also, the car learns your driving style and makes adjustments for it. I reset the FI ECU the other day and was driving like a grandpa. When i tried to move a bit it was feel boggy and slow. Had to reteach it by redlining it and hauling ass. Now when I drive it relaxed it's back.
Seafoaming brought me 2 to 3 mpg more. I also noticed that the TL's needle moves VERY fast from full...sometimes within 20 miles from fillup. But then it'll slow down right before half and before empty and makes up for it.
Best I've gotten before gas light...320 miles...worst 230.
