I would say swap them around but I think ours our built into the housing so i could be wrong. You can try ohming it out with a voltmeter. I dunno the spec though.

heh heh, the ballast on my right side is giving out. Whenever I turn my headlights on, the right side only comes on when it wants to. Changing the bulb did nothing so the ballast is next! I think it is expected when you got the car at 43k used and at 62k now, 04 TL SSM.

Now, I see on eBay oem ballast going for $150-$175~, however, don't mean to cut into the topic but are there any HID kits or ballast that are higher in quality than the oem for around that price?

I dunno about quality but you can try ddmtuning.com I havent heard any complaints on there kits and they are usually cheaper than the competition.

As for seeing the ballast if you can see it touch it shouldnt be an issue to pull out. The problem is is there enough room for you to get it out lol.

yeah id say no it doesnt look like it as far as pulling it out through top. the ballast is 200 at dealer so if i cant get it for at least $50 less than its not worth buying from ebay.
and there is the ballast and the inverter. so its gonna suck if its the inverter and not the ballast after i buy it.
