Temporary license plate...

I have had my Temp plates on my car for more than 2 months and my license plate finally arrived in the mail. While driving with the temp plates i loved not having my front plate and not having to worry about cops giving me a ticket for it. So i was wondering what would happen if i kept my temp plates on the car for a while longer.

LOL thread

I actually have a friend who bought one of those new jettas last year. Ever since he bought it, he has kept his temporary lp on even though he got his license plate. He told me he runs through the toll booths all the time and doesn't get ticketed. ALso, he was able to get out of getting a illegal parking ticket on campus when I was with him.

Even to this day, he still has his temporary plates on lol.

BUT...if you get pulled over for something stupid..and they find out that you had ur real license plate since forever..i dunno man....

The Police have the fancy on board computer that tells them many things about you and your car, when it was registered, date renewal fee paid, date tags mailed etc.
Because it sometimes takes DMV some time to get the renewal year stickers to you- LE can pull up behind you- run the plates- it comes back as registration paid and they go on about their way.

Press your luck and bear the wrath if the locals have a thing for front plates be installed
OR
Just tell them you had it detailed and they forgot to put the plate back on- its right here in the seat pocket- would you like me to put it in the window until I get home and can put it back on Officer?

Compromise: leave the front plate off, put on just the back plate, and wish that you'll never get pulled over for anything. A missing front plate is better than no plates at all.

Many of us have been driving without front plates for a while . It's your call to see if its worth it to you.

To clarify my post

Front plate- you can claim it got detailed and needs to be reinstalled as above

Rear plate- dont even think about driving without a real one- just asking for a ticket if not a boring lengthy chat with LE about understanding the laws

I never had temp plates. I asked if I need them and the dealer said no. So I was driving around for 4 months without plates. Just a giant Acura logo where my plates should go. And when my plates did came it I drove around another 4 months cuz I was too lazy to put them on.

Lying to the Police about ordering vanity plates- the Officer checks and dmv records say nope- these are the plate numbers for this car XXXXXX

That will get you in bracelets really fast because you MUST be up to some kind of trouble, or why no plates and lying?????????? Must be a gangster or dealer or killer or.....

Again- its the age of the computer, do you think they cant find out anything they want to know.....

For the past 25 years I have not run a front plate. Never been pulled over for it. When I did get a ticket for speeding 10 years ago, CHP officer didn't even mention the missing front plate. I'm either very lucky or most cops in CA don't want to fool with it. I've noticed some of the newer PD cruisers in my town don't run a front plate. They must think it looks better too.

BTW, I always have the front plate in the vehicle somewhere in case they want to see it.

I haven't put my front plates on since I got my TL and no problems here. I was pulled over beofre summer and they did not say anything about the front plates (busted for the cali roll ). But if you already received the plates in the mail, you should at least put the rear plates on. That'll give the police one less reason to pull you over.

If you bought your car new or from a car dealer- there was a small piece of paper passenger side front windshield. Thats the temp reg for new vehicles-

If you buy a used vehicle and it needs replacment plates or you have paid the fees but still need smog cert before they will issue new year tags, thats what those small red tags with a number for the month of expiration you see in the back window of so many car is for.

so if you smack into me and don't stop, i have no way of ID'ing your car... this is the reason i stay away from cars that don't seem to have any plates on their cars...

That's why I mangled up my front plate and snapped the mounting bracket, and tossed it all in the trunk in a plastic bag. The one time I got hassled, I said I was recently in a fender bender, and I haven't remounted the plate yet, because of the busted bracket that is on order...

Not sure how many times you can use that excuse tho... (Note to flamers: I was in college at the time, so I've "grown up" since than)

I've had my front plate off since I got the clearbra applied (3 years ago) and have not been stopped (yet). That's just the chance you take. If you do get stopped, don't try some BS line. That'll probably get you a more irate cop. Just be honest and tell 'em the truth. Is it still a fixit ticket in CA? Last time I got stopped was in my Jetta GLI back in 92 and just had to mount the plate, go to the CHP office and they signed off on it.

i think you should be ok with no front plate up front... i believe it's really up to the cop who pulls you over, whether they are a punk or not... and most of the time if they do give you a ticket for no front plate.. you can get it dismissed by putting it back on.. and then you can take it off again after the dismissal.. LOL.
