Taking the TL-S on a road trip

Whats up Aziners!! Holiday weekend is here and decided to take a trip to Las Vegas from Utah hence my screen name I wanna see how it does through the canyons and through the turns and how it does MPG wise. I ended up masking it vs using other things like road wrap ect heard mixed reviews. Plus saving my front end from having to get repainted and matching the color eff that. I went the masking route.
Looks ugly but whatever hahah

Yeah, really ugly? Blue masking tape? Whatever floats your boat. I drove my TL cross country. It was fine, just don't tailgate. The painters tape wont prevent rocks and debris from the road hitting your bumper.

I wouldn't have gone to those extremes of masking the entire front end. Your just driving on the highway, not driving through a tornado lol
My 07 Type S has 7,700 miles on it, much of which is highway miles from CT to Atlanta, then Atlanta to Chicago, and the front of the car looks brand new. If your that worried about it I would have either spent the money and had a clear bra installed for permanent protection, or spent 25 bucks and used that new 3M spray on clear bra. Now you gotta do your bad ass road trip with a really weird looking car hahaha
Regular colored masking tape would have looked less atrocious on your color too.

well most of the part is still accessible as their website says, the fire is more on the remote side of the park. they sent out letters to all the ppl lodging there and said not to worry. if i can see the fire there i'll post some pics haha. doubt i'll be close enough to see it though

Good thing you didn't tape up the Acura on the front. Wouldn't want people to think it's a Hyundai or something...

safe driving and take pictures of your travels-drove my tsx on 3 cross country roadtrips covering 42 states and numerous trips from NC to NJ and back. Most of the numerous rock chips came from driving I95 and I tried not to tailgate.

None of you folks drive in utah. Too much road debris here. I have rock chips all over my front clip. Better to have a protected car than paint failure later on.

On one of our cross country roadtrips included Utah-Had a nice time in SLC>can not say the roads were any better or worse than the many other roads we traveled on.

OP I do this in the winter but use black electrical tape ... I, like you would prefer short term ugly for long term preservation of paint. Tail gating isn't always the issue... Cars coming the other way also flip up stuff. On most long road trips i run an OEM bra.

Wow OP.. I cant imagine if what you do if you owned an exotic.
If it scares you that much get clear vinyl wrap.

I love taking the Acura on roadtrips.. Its comfortable and great in the canyons.. BTW if I saw you comming the other way with all that masking tape I would think "idiot".

Sorry dude dont take offense.. Im just being honest.

I don't understand why everyone is hating on OP. Its masking tape that causes no damage to the paint. Keeps it protected and mint. Why is that bad? Are the looks of the car on the free way more important to you?

That is offensive given the fact that its someone who takes pride in caring for what he owns. I'd say going on a road trip and not protecting the front clip makes you a bigger idiot! This costs next to nothing to do.

If you actually drove your car on track or in autocross you'd realize how useful this really is.

PS: Its not honesty, its being an ass. Can't add to the productivity of the conversation then don't say anything.

Vidur,

As i type this post I have a big smile on my face I spent whole day with my family, my friends, my kids. I am naturally happy person. Did you notice what is important to me. Cars can be fixed, replaced, repainted. Cars are nothing but piece of metal.

What special did you have to do to own a TL that makes you so proud? It is a freaking car that anybody can afford to buy.

Saying that I wouldn't waste my time has no other hidden message such as "hate", it only means one thing that I wouldn't waste my time.

You are saying the cost is nothing. It cost time and time cannot be replaced. If you love you car more than your family and friends I feel sorry for you. I have better things to do with my life than putting masking tape on the front of my car. How pathetic you must feel if you are in love with your car. Car will never appreciate you for who you are, will never love you back, never send you a present, never stand by you, never be your friend.

I couldn't care less more actually I could care less more what you do with your car and it doesn't bring any feelings to me neither hateful nor joyful.

Isn't it amazing that both of us can enjoy riding same car while liking to spend our time differently.

Meh, OP wants to protect his car from road debris on a trip and did what he thought was necessary. Like I said, whatever floats your boat.

Some people have hobbies in life and this happens to be one of them. If you don't care about your car that's just fine. Telling other people they are idiots for taking care of their belongings however is insulting.

Some owner take pride in the fact that they have a well maintained car or motorcycle or home. If family and kids is the only thing keeping you going then I feel sad for you!

This can be applied to any aspect of their lives. If family is all that you care about then why spend time on this forum? Why spend time typing out that reply? Please don't come up with stupid comparisons like that. If your car is nothing but a machine that can be replaced then by all means leave and stop sharing your view online.

You don't care and it is a commuter for you. Nothing wrong in that. Telling someone they're wasting their time taking care of what they own is annoying and you should go do something else that's productive. End of story!

Also given your 162 posts and thread on catching the bug and doing your own maintenance on your wife's lexus makes it apparent that you waste time online and working on your car. Why not just drive it till it breaks or pay someone to fix it for you so you have all the time in the world for friends family and kids. That way you're never going to waste time. LOL taping the front of a car is a waste but spending hours changing the transmission fluid on a car isn't? Especially when it cost 50 bucks to do so. Hypocrite!

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/lexus-make-me-mad-jealous-891825/

Also OP came here to share his story with enthusiasts not a bunch of hater's that couldn't care less about their cars. If you don't care then by all means leave! Don't dictate how he should or shouldn't spend his time!

by your reasoning, no one should buy anything or own anything nice.
why buy a car at all? spend your whole life in your house and spend time with your family.
why work a job that pays good money? according to you, family is the only thing that matters so you dont need money, just go be a farmer, live off a farm and eat only what you grow for the rest of your life so you can have every minute with your family.
why have a computer? why go on acurazine? every minute on acurazine is another minute you arent spending with your family

see where I'm going with this? nothing wrong with your reasoning, but if you dont have 20 minutes of your day to spend on your car because you cant take a break from your family, then you've got some bigger problems.

Both of you didn't even get a point I was trying to make.
Just because I wouldn't do it to my car doesn't mean that I am hateful. I do not care what you do to your car and how you spend your time.

Vidur, read this carefully, Oil changes are part of maintenance, masking tape is not. At 25 you should be able to tell the difference between required maintenance and masking tape. There is a difference between been safe and going over board.

Hateful? People calling OP an idiot for taking care of his car is hateful. You need help with your reasoning and logic. If you don't come on here because you like cars and want to learn more then don't contribute. At 25 I have a life. Clearly you seem to think the way you spend yours is superior to everyone else's.

FYI both those activities contribute to the overall condition of the vehicle thereby constituting maintenance. You don't care about cosmetic perfection. Others do. So yeah it is maintenance.

Kindly do us a favor and keep your ignorance to yourself.

Also your comment right there is a blatantly ignorant. If you had any idea of how repainting a car changes its originality you'd understand why that isn't an option. Again a description of how much money and time you have in your life.

If you want to do that then great. Don't go dictating what is or isn't necessary. Transmission fluid changes aren't necessary if you granny your car. Why did you bother changing your Lexus's transmission fluid? Waste of time in my opinion but no body on this forum told you to go spend your time elsewhere. Everyone was supportive on your thread.

Either give better options or don't say anything. Beyond that I'm done wasting my time on people like you who are a part of car culture. I bet car shows and meet ups are a waste of time because family isn't necessarily part of the equation.

Please get a life.
