Switchblade question

Just got an 07 type s and was wondering about the switchblade keys that came with my car. I know that pushing the button makes the key come out, but should the key be locked in the out position until I push the button to fold it back into the FOB? I didnt find anything by searching.

Care to explain why you would like to change that feature?

you mean having the key stay out and locked until I push the button to put it into my pocket?

The switchblade moves when I turn the ignition, making it harder to start the car.

Did you get more than 1 key? If so, just use the other one. Replacing the factory key and getting it programmed for the starting immobilizer isn't cheap.

Another Cincinnati guy, welcome to the crew. Maybe one of these days the snow will stop.

The other key is the same. Both must have been used a lot.

Well, then now for the bad news.

You'd have to get a new key. Have the key milled to match the ignition, they come blank from the factory. Then you have to get the new key programmed for the starting immobilizer system, they can do that at the dealer, or they can swap the chip from your current key.

You are looking at about $200 per key for everything that's involved.

Looks like I have some crappy keys then. Not worth the money to fix that. Thanks.

I misunderstood, I thought you wanted it not to lock when key was extended.
