Surprising Results...
To keep a short story short, last night finally raced my buddy in his 2007 Subaru WRX....
His vehicle is stock, other than an STI catback exhaust which I believe adds no performance gain to his car, and 3 month old bridgestone Potenza's. It has about 30k miles, and he is the only owner.
My car is an '04 6spd, with Yokohama's that are damn close to the tread wear up front, AEM V2, and a torque dampner. I have 79k miles and am the second owner, had it for 3 months.
Raced twice at a 15 roll, beat him by a carlength. First time, another friend drove who is not very experienced driving a manual, and I beat him by about 2 carlengths. Second race, the owner of the car drove with another 15 roll. He was about even with my rear bumper the entire race, and we got up to about 80mph.
I was very surprised by these results, as I expected his WRX to beat my car by the margin I won by...
Anyone else have some surprising results racing other cars lately? I don't really street race at all, so this was one of the first real race tests I've had with my TL.
But he did have the last laugh on an exit ramp where it was clear I couldn't keep up with him.

Sounds about right. You should have no problem beating the older WRX's when they are stock. With a few mods tho they can be fast. They have so much torque we stand no chance until a 3rd gear roll, and sometimes even then WE have no shot.
The '09s in stock form are slightly quicker than us from a roll. From a dig, obviously that's a no brainer. Modded '09s are fast.

My buddy has a 09 es350 and we tend to mess around a little. if we are rolling at 15 mph and im in first gear still at around 3000-4000 rpm ill typically take him. If we both start from a stop hell get a quick car length lead cause that thing is quick from a start and then ill catch up and it will be neck and neck. my only other race that i was really proud of is when i was behind a new Evo with a big ol' fart pipe in the back
. i was behind him and for the most part i was staying with him, a big suprise to me!

Well the other morning i "raced" a 335x on the way into work. An old guy pulled up right alongside at the light with a clean stretch of road ahead of us. He pulled off the light kinda fast so i accelerated to catch up. At this point we were side by side and i floored it in 2nd. He tried to catch up i heard him get on it but by this time i already had the head start and was about 2 cars ahead of him before we both let off around 70. Yes i know that he wasnt trying at first but as soon as i took off he was. Not really a kill but at least he didnt catch up and blow by me
