let the motor rev...it loves revving. adding weight and driving it slow (at low rpms) will make a difference, but let it rev and you won't feel it.

i've had 6 people in my car (5 others)...going up a mountain (a very steep uphill)...doing 125 up there. Sure i was redlinging 4th gear (6MT) but it's impressive that it can hurl up at 125mph at that steep of an uphill and it weighing a total of...around 4500 pounds.

you gotta remember the big difference that weight it makes...whenever i have passengers in my car i feel how the car handles differently, remember that 230lbs is around 6% of your car's weight...added to it...so i guess that'll make it 6% slower

hahah

Weight factor....removing the luxurious components that make a TL what it is....

Just get a different car... It's a sedan, it will never be in a class of a sports car.

What's next drive naked? Make your friends do the same? Remove all the electronics like A/C, Radio? Remove the plastic dashboard, just leave one seat and steering wheel? You'll go faster, but I bet you won't be comfortable.

However, I do understand the point of freeing up the horse power we already have, and a nominal percentage is definitely lost, and I feel it.

i think the stock TL wheels are much heavier than 25 pounds. i mounted BBS SE wheels and these are about 13 or so lbs (18 lbs with Advan A046 tire) and noticed an improvement right off the bat.

Not doubting the advantages of weight loss for a vehicle.... definitely all types of benefits other than the obvious increase of HP/Lbs ratio..... but with some of the serious and intense desires for car modding, you would have thought that some of the TL owners on this forum would have picked a better platform.

Don't take that the wrong way.... I love my TL.... but if I wanted to install racing harnesses, strip it of it's interior, and mod it to run quick in the quarter... I would in hind sight I would have kept one of my Camaros for that purpose. I guess I just take the TL for what it is at face value.

To each his own though.

i picked the TL coming from an Evo because ive grown tired of the car and wanted something more liveable.

but i knew id want to tinker with the car just enough to personalize it. wheels are the most common theme, so i went with something very light and strong. its also factory size except for offset so i can use OEM tires easy with no modifications.

i believe they were rated at 27 lbs a piece? The A-Specs I have on currently, I believe, weigh the same?

absolutely. i agree 100%. but for someone in my position (the car was purchased for someone else in our family and then handed down to me), I don't exactly have the luxury of shopping for a car that I WANT, you know? In essence, I'm STUCK; however, stuck with one hell of a car!

I hear ya though - we all can't have a souped up camero or mustang just sitting in the garage waiting for us to meddle with.

yeah i think they are probably somewhere around that figure. i need both hands to lift a TL wheel w/o a tire and strain while i can lift one of the BBS w/o a tire on each hand easy.

I seen it mentioned several times in this thread that a person should trade-in the TL for a true sports car as opposed to modding the TL.

I often do Google searches when researching my ideas. I am surprised at some things that the Google search digs up. One of the most shocking things that I recall is finding a thread on the Corvette Z06 forum discussing serious weight reduction mods. What ???? You have a Z06 that has a CRAZY HP/LBS ratio already not to mention that the car is relatively light - and they are wanting more performance ??? Talk about being greedy.

The point is that no matter what the car is, even if it is a Z06, some folks like me and many others here in this thread would still be modding it for the fun of it. Kind of a Tim Allen thing I suppose.... [grunt] More Power !! MORE POWER !!! [grunt][grunt].

well, if you were to reduce the weight of the car to give it more speed, remove the spare, dont add any subs/amps, add an intake, and an S/C. then car would go as fast as you want it to
