Surprised: By the WEIGHT factor
I'm not really sure why I never really noticed this before, but DANG does more weight mean LESS pick up. Never imagined the weight of two girls could slow "us" down so much! Let's see, they have to have been at least 230 put together, and WOW...
I wonder why that is? Maybe because we have no low end torque? I know both my parents' trucks do just fine with heavy loads; 07 4Runner and 09 RX350. Speaking of which, anyone know of any "weight reduction" methods? Something simple; not looking to gut her out; something off the top of your head. Sucks that OUR cars seem to be so bogged down by a little bit of an up in weight...freaking passengers! Where's that "no fat chicks" sticker?! lol

Weight is underrated, people don't really realize how significant it is in regards to how fast your car is, not only in accelerating, cornering, braking etc.
By the way, Erick3, are you running spacers?

I just went camping, my TL-S was loaded with 4 people, 3 tents, 4 sleeping bags, two coolers, charcoal, fishing rods, you name it, I had it...
My TL-S drove like a champ up the hilly mountain (20 miles up)...

The only weight reduction I did was loosing the spare tire and slightly lighter wheels. Don't know if it helped or not.

Get a lightweight battery, that can lose up to 27lbs on the front end, which will help the car handle better because it won't be so nose heavy. It shouldn't hurt the car, and certainly won't gut it out.
Next mod is a CF hood, 600$, though (battery is roughly $120), and then I would get it painted because the CF look in the exterior doesn't cut it for me.
Right there is 50lbs or so.
Next is lightweight wheels, the stock wheels are 24.5lbs each, this wheel that I think you should get is only 15.6lbs each, so you will lose almost 9lbs a wheel, 9x4 = 36lbs, but that's at the wheels so that would be more like 80lbs taken from the car itself.
The weight reduction at the wheels will be like getting a lightweight pulley, but the performance upgrade is threefold, better braking, handling and acceleration.
Here is a pick of the recommended wheels. (Enkei RPF1)
Total weight loss almost 90lbs, the best part is the car will look great and you'll still maintain a full interior.

90 lbs is almost 1 added HP actually!
and uh, i hope you weren't trying to gun the car with girls in the car....that's a big no no.
and yea i just went camping as well, had 2 9 person tents in the back, all the water, charcoal, sleeping bags in my car and food, and my TL picked up fine. if anything getting it to start rolling was a big laggy but that was about it

I did notice that carrying my parents, my brother, myself, and our four sets of golf clubs didn't seem to be a very good idea as it put us over the 850-pound load limit and I could feel that the back of the car was riding rather low.

You would be surprised what little things at the ends of the car will do. Anything overhanging the wheels will make a more responsive handling car. By removing the "boat anchor" which is attached to the front bumper, you can feel a slight difference in turn in just from 7 or so lbs.
There are little things you can do to remove 80 or so lbs and not affect the looks or drivability of the car. Probably the most effective are rims. Inaccurate "might" have gotten a little carried away lol, but there are tons of good ideas in his thread for those of us not wanting to go to that extreme.

^ no way...that 7 lb "bar" behind the bumper?! jeez...
my car tends to slip in the front, but stays pretty well planted in the rear end...makes sense since the front's heavier...right?

That's why I never full more than half a tank, unless I loaded it up with some fuel injector cleaner.

Just seen this thread.
I am speechless and touched.... finally for the first time, I see the board members (as a whole) are taking the weight issue seriously.
I am Not being sarcastic here. For so long now, all that I have seen from the board as a whole is how ridiculous I was to attempt to take off "a few pounds" from the TL... that I was stupid to think that "a few pounds" would ever even be felt.
I am so happy and proud to see that the board as a whole is realizing what I said in my very first sentence of the opening post of the TL Diet, which was one and a half years ago -

There are two things that I have found that KILLS the TL's performance: Underhood ambient heat and weight. In the following post, I wish to discuss the advantages of weight reduction.
Cheers

weight reduction has always been a means of better performance. At the drag strip there is a general rule that 100 lbs +/- is equal to a .1 so if you take out 500 pounds your car will be .5 faster. It should also be mentioned that less weight is easier on your drivetrain and other parts especially when racing. However there is always someone that will take weight reduction to the extreme (removing crash beams, airbags, dash boards, a/c, sound deadening etc...) at that point your car is a track only car and can be less safe then many of the older cars in an accident.
Any car can be turned into a race car. My gosh even a prius. There are much better choices for race cars on the street the a tl. I have an 05 evo with some mild mods and it will spank my tl-s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in performance. However the tl-s spanks the evo at everything else.

5 point over airbags all day, no question. Another thing if you can decrease weight from the top of the car it can have significant advantages to the cars handling. My point alot of the new high end sports cars are coming with carbon fiber roofs. cheers.

The top and ends of the car are always the best places to lose weight.
