Exclamation Supercharged TL

Hello all! First post here! I'm am getting out of a BMW 540i and in the process of buying a 3rd gen TL. Found one that has low mileage (29000) and it is also supercharged.

It's a Comptech suprecharger. Here's the question, how reliable is this upgrade? Also, the car is an auto. Is there any drivetrain issues with the added horsepower? Feel free to add any useful info I might need to know or ask. Thank everyone!

Welcome to the board!

The engine management or lack thereof that's provided with the supercharger is what kills the reliability. There is no timing retard and the fuel enrichment is primative at best.

The internals will take it, the transmissions are notoriously unreliable but for whatever reason the supercharger doesn't seem to make them fail any faster.

It seems really hit or miss. Some have engine failures and some, like Michael Benz on here auto cross a supercharged TL without problems.

If you buy it, the best advise is to run the highest octane available and top gear, top end sustained runs are probably not the best idea. For a little fun point and shoot driving on the street, you will probably be fine.

Edit: What year is it? The 06 and later *seem* to have the transmission issues under control.

I'm aware of the power issues as far as the low torque compared to the BMW. I have a Supra that puts down over 750 rwhp. So I really don't need this car to be very quick, but this was a pretty good deal. It's an '04. Ron Jon wheels, Comptech exhaust, camber plates, and supercharger.

Sounds nice, especially with only 24k. What's the price?

If you already have a fast car, which you do, and only want the TL as a semi-sporty reliable daily driver it won't let you down. It have been extremely happy with it. Being that you have a fast Supra, even the supercharged TL is going to feel extremely slow. You might as well pass on the blown car and get a stocker that has the potential for more trouble free miles. Just my opinion. I finally learned not to mod the daily driver.

I would post a link, but it's really good deal. And let's be honest I wouldn't mind the car if there are no REAL issues with the car or the future of the car's life. I see a ton of people on here wanting to buy a TL so I don't want it snatched up under me.

Can you post the pictures then? There's a handful of people out there with the S/C since its almost 5K for one.

Have you driven it? How is the torque steer on that thing???

With your car situation, I would go with a more stockish car so it is more reliable.

Blackura came to save the day.
I guess that is where I saw the car.

The car is nowhere near Florida. I'm in Texas. It's near me (within driving distance). Are you sure it's the same car? I'll post more pics.

Wow, well definitely worth it to go and check it out in person. When you say that, scam artists will usually back away.

I had that when I was trying to buy an uber low mileage 3000GT VR-4 about a year or so ago. The car was listed as being about a mile from my house. When I told the guy that through email (after an exchange of a couple emails on the car's condition, etc) he didn't respond to me anymore.

I think I asked too many questions. No answer from the seller for two days. Well, next!

^ i am almost postive it is the same car, the only thing different from last time i remember, was the Type-S tails... i mean, obviously, somebody could have built their own TL similar... but i distinctly remember the silver devotions, comptech s/c & exhaust and those lighter colored mesh grilles in the RJ kit.... i do remember south, i thought it was florida... check the VIN, see how many owners.... locations and stuff.... could just be coincidence...

i mean, the other day, i saw this on ebay.... and if you knew about my old car when it was still younger, it was IDENTICAL
