Sunroof Question

Watching my sunroof open and shut (finally, nice weather in northern Ohio), I noticed that something "pops up" at the front of the opening when the roof opens. What is that--was not there on my 01 Accord or 95 Civic?

Seems to have an effect on air flow (increasing into the car), but makes it much louder too.

shoudl make it quieter, go on the highway, put your hand up and pull it down to see the difference. They are much better. Like a mini sunroof guard instead of buying the huge obnoxious one

Every car I've been in has that piece of metal popup. When the sunroof closes, it should go down automatically...

If this is so good, why do ppl need the moonroof visor? Is the moonroof visor really work well or just looking well?

It's a wind deflector. It does a lot to quiet the wind noise and buffeting.

My 02 TL didn't have this deflector or the deflector was too low/small and it was very noisy above 35MPH.

My 04 doesn't even get any noise inside until about 50MPH and even then, I can still hear the stereo well and whoever I'm talking to in the car clearly. I can even work the voice controls on the navi at that level of noise.

It's a solar energy collector. When you open your sunroof and drive, the extra wind resistance is so great that the car needs to collect more energy somehow so it pops up and directs all the solar energy it gets to the car's engine.

Personally I hate that little deflector. I know people are saying it cuts down on noise but I find it makes it's own annoying noise. Same thing on my '01 CL. I don't like it at all.

On the other hand, I think those exterior moonroof deflectors are awful - they ruin the clean look of the roof line, they accumulate dirt, and they also create a noise of their own. I had one on an Altima - would never get it again.

I actually tried manually pulling down on the little deflector as I was driving down I-45 at about 70 mph. To be honest, there was more noise with the thing up than there was when I had it pulled down.

It's a wind deflector NOT a noise eliminator.

No sh*t Sherlock. My point was that it ADDS so much noise that I don't care how well it might deflect wind - it annoys me.

Right back at ya, buddy.

Yikes. Please accept my apology. I was not intending to be disagreeable in an offensive manner. Hence the smileys - sometimes without 'em the friendly tone doesn't come through.
