Summer "Performace" Tires available?
I was playing tug-o-war with the Acura Salespeps last weekend and was told that these tires are only optional with the 18" rims. They are listed as a $200 msrp option at the various "new cars" sites and with that price I'm sure the 18" rims are not part of the deal. So question is...Anyone get these summer tires as an option and are they 17". Thanks and say hello to the kids for me.

Which tires are they though?
The ones that go on the 18"s are Yokohama ES100's (High performance tires). The 17" "High Performance" summer tires are only a $200 add but the dealer doesn't have any and their parts department only has the generic description. Can you provide the actual model of the tire? If it's only a $200 add for the S-03's then I'll have my dealer add them. If it's a $200 charge for the RE650's (or whatever) I might not bother...

So far (after only 80 miles) they seem good to me. I will be throwing the car around in a few months and my mind might change.

Looking at tirerack for the specs and reviews of the Potenza RE030 (the 17" 'summer tires' offered by Acura) they have mixed reviews.
The specs say the have a tread life of 140!!!!!!!!! This is the lowest I've seen and half the Yokohama ES 100's.
The Reviews are mixed. Some owners have liked its handling in dry or wet. Others only in dry. Most say its a noisy tire.
Can't decide between putting up with the poor EL42's or getting the RE030's and when they wear out, get Turanza LS Z's. I wish that Acura would go the the extra mile and offer the Turanza LS Z's, even if I had to pay the extra $35-40 a tire!

Just wait. The turanzas are definitely not the hottest thing out there, but I think they are not a bad compromise tire. When they are done get something better. I personally will buty some ultra high performance since I just bought snow tires on brand new rims. Acura stiffs you royaly on the wheels, but I really like the standard ones!!!

HPT option for $200 is not a dealer add-on but comes from the factory that way...Bridgestone Potenza 030s....not bad but not great tires. Mine work well enough although the torque available easily overpowers them. On warm pavement it will doubtless be probably better, we will see. I was surprised that they actually work a little in snow, like an inch or so, and are not as totally useless as some hpts are. Still I would recommend winter tires as there is no margin for error with the 030s, and if you live where there is any kind of hill you may not get home on time, if at all.
