Stoptech slotted rotors thoughts...

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...sn=858&jsn=858

Looking to perhaps upgrade 08 Type S brake set up...any experience and or opinions? Like the slotted look, and from what I've seen stoptech/powerstop has very favorable reviews. This Type S is more of a toy, and driven rarely so I don't mind spending some $

Nope, I wouldn't do it. The slot will eat up the pad quicker and after years of usage you will have to clean out the material deposit in the slots, I would save the slots rotor for more performance oriented vehicle.

Silly question probably...but what about a rarely driven one? I'll maybe take a well deserved "beating" for this but I do like the look more than anything. And like I said this car rarely is out. Or is it just not worth the hassle? I really respect opinions here, you truonghthe being one!

Do what you’d like, if you want slotted, then slotted it is. Drilled, why not? Your hardly going to be driving it.

Simply stated, and wisely put. I'm leaning more towards it with this TL being the hardly driven one...

slotted will eat pads faster but will give more bite when applying brakes. I like them on my MDX and both TL's. Racingbrake used to make slots with holes in them so the dust can vent out. Also washing the car will easily remove the dust from slots that cakes up. The big issue is finding quality rotors. Get some High Carbon content ones and you'll be set. The pads make the most difference on braking. EBC red is a great upgrade from factory, and EBC yellow is a huge, dusty and noisy step up. I use red on my 3G TL and yellow on the MDX and 4G TL

We all pretty much agree on the wear characteristics. This is prolly the first time I differ from my TX bud, tho.
I run these on ALL my TLs and I like 'em, obviously. They are sexy-looking.......especially with freshly painted calipers.

We are retired and semi-rural so our TLs don't get the daily hard-driven routines, but I haven't had ANY issues with them, whatsoever. I say get 'em.

Agreed sir! This is my "other" Type S and is not out nearly as much as my other Type S (maybe once a week or 2 weeks) so wear isn't a huge issue I'd say. I guess I am just trying to avoid any issues future wise. I bought this 08 6MT mid October with 118,5xx and as of today it has 119,199. So yea...it sits. But geez I do like that slotted look. Really appreciate this community and the opinions/help, means so much. But if looks override certain things then I'd pass. It kinda reads to me like this...

daily driver - maybe not the best option?
my driving routine for this vehicle - sounds like it'll be fine and look nice.

I can understand faster pad wear. Build up of dust or material for me isn't much of an issue. I am a fanatic about washing these 2 S's

Fanatics? Here??

Don't forget to polish your calipers when you do the changeover.

just realized the stoptech kit is drilled AND slotted. I hate drilled since you have to worry about cracks with thermal cycling a lot more than with plain/slotted rotors. I've gotten my brakes on my 3G and 4G TL red hot and the rotors still work great.

I'm not that worried with it being a car driven rarely, and this car just isn't "opened" up hardly ever. Would I put them on my daily 07...I'd say no. On the 08, I like the look and it's just not on the road much, and when so babied.90% of the time.

I just hate the fact that the slot will create slight vibration when it contact the pads, I used to have drilled and slotted on my Red TL and even that isn't my daily. If this you don't drive the TL that much and slight vibration doesn't bother you then go with slotted rotor. Be mind full the StopTech slotted version last time I seen go around $580 for full set.

I just stick with good old Centric blank Cryo treated blank, same looks except no slotted.

I'm going regular. Most likely Bosch or Centric. Piece of mind by far out weighs looks (and damn the other rotors look good) but after all who is going to be wowed by my f'n brake rotors. I get carried away with "pipe" dream scenarios. Thank you friends for bringing me back...I still think the drilled/slotted are useable and fine. I've gone over this for a day, maybe 2, and I think the best route is go full regular blank rotor.

No worries I'll probably change my mind AGAIN by morning....my hurdle on this issue is simple..

1. I like the look
2. This car gets driven once every 1 to 2 weeks.

That's my dilemma

(edit) and of course truonghthe again helping me with solid advice...

funny that you asking about MT car with slotted rotor, my KBP came with slotted and drilled rotor and I also rarely drive that thing.

i have a 2007 subaru legacy spec.B which according to the community has notoriously crappy brakes. a previous owner installed stoptech pads and rotors on my car, and i have no complaints whatsoever. in fact, i recommend them. when i bought the car, the seller mentioned some pulsing at the pedal during braking. after driving the car for awhile and applying firm braking regularly, the pedal pulsation disappeared. i think the 'enthusiastic' use of the brakes helped to remove residual pad material on the disc which eliminated the pulsation. ymmv.

or

You only live once go for slotted! Love the look and I’ve been running it on my type s for years. Will get slotted again without hesitation!

I run the Stoptech slotted rotors with the Akebono ceramic pads best combo IMO

Well hells bells sockr1 here I am again! My dilemma on this always goes back to this...I simply just don't drive this car much and it's my toy. All the boys that argue against these make very good points though. I'm literally torn. If I choose to go with these it kinda has to be...

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...440495&jsn=396 POWER STOPK2718

as I am only seeing this option for a full 4 corner replacement "rotors and pads all around"

Here I am flip flopping AGAIN! I swear I'm not a female friends lol

In a week, I would have ordered 'em, installed 'em and been driving on 'em for a couple of days telling you how much I like 'em.

Stop twisting my arm you bully (heavy sarcasm sir)

You all might laugh (warranted) but is this the same...

- With 4 Piston Aluminum front calipers
- With Brembo Front Caliper

Anything listed as single piston is off the table for a Type S I'd assume...?

Correct, you are looking for listings which list Manual Transmission, and/or Brembo, and/or Type-S, and/or 4-Piston Aluminum front calipers.

The Akebono pads are definitely less dusty than the PowerStop ones if thats something you care about. Although those PowerStop kits come complete with everything you need which is very nice.

I listened to Sockr1 and daily drive with Stoptech slotted rotors and Akebono ASP pads in my Type-S. They work great and look awesome. Very little dust.

I'd recommend the plain jane centric kit for 185 with the high carbon rotors. 1/2 the price and great quality. Just got a TL-S and will be ordering that kit for it soon!

A friend of friend who bought it new wanted a TLX and I gave him a better offer than trade in at the dealer. I'm working on cleaning it up right now as it's had some battle wounds but looks incredible. Makes me realize how much the TL-S has improvements that the driver can feel over the 04-08 3.2 models.
