Are the stock HID bulbs 35w or 55w

I need to do a replacement and I was just curious if they were 35w or 55w.

Additionally if they were 35w bulbs can the OEM ballast handle 55w bulbs or does it not have the output for that?

I believe they use the 35W bulb and again I think you can go with the 55W but the wiring hardness may not be able to take the heat. Can someone confirm??

Our ballasts are 35w with the stock HID set up. If you're wanting to run a 50w set up, you're going to have to upgrade the ballasts. I believe you can run any bulb with the 35w or 50w ballsts it's just going to shorten the lifespan of the bulb if you're using something other than what's dedicated for a 50w ballast. You wont need a new wiring harness, just have to be carefuly with the extra heat that the 50w ballasts throw out, you run the risk of melting the projector bowls. I've talked to Matt (Owner of The Retrofit Source) about this issue, he said our projectors are big enough where you shouldn't run into any melting issues.

If you go this route, you'll have to do some wiring from the stock wiring harness to be able to connect the ballasts.

Thank you for clarifying this. I think I am going to stay with 35w bulbs until I can do it right.

just get OEM philip bulbs. Your ballast is 35w. Don't run 55w there just too much light its. It makes your eyes get tired during long drives. I have a set of fx-r with 55w and philips 85122+ bulbs and I am swapping the ballast back to OEM musashita 35w.

The Retrofit Source's ballasts and bulbs look nice but has anyone used them? One of my ballasts went out on me so it gives me a excuse to upgrade lol.

Want to see what 1500 watt HIDs are like? Only running at 800 watts but you get the picture. Imagine those in your car.

I upgraded mine to 6k ddm tuning bulbs and I like them, they have the cleaner white look with no blue tinting and it was cheaper than OEM.

Like I said above, if you're wanting to upgrade your ballasts their will be some re wiring involved. Matt is usually really good when it comes to his warranties. I'd recommend him over DDM.
