my dad drives a stock 04 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. My neighbor drives an 04 stock TL. We are both trying to figure out what would win before we actually try. Also, my dad does not like me driving his car. post back on what you think would win.

 

The TL better win because it traps higher.

I have had many heated debates with Clubgp regarding this and the fact is I have never lost to a stock GTP in my TL or in my slower I35 sport. (Which I might add had an auto TL pull 2 lengths up top on it)

If you cant launch the TL you're fucked because the TL is a torqueless wonder and the GTP will just get up and go.

Traded my GTP for the TL 6MT. I've gotten better trap speeds. The 6MT is far superior to Pontiac's auto. The GTP can be a formidable competitor. However, unlike the TL, the GTP has a plethora of cheap mods that can make the GTP quite the ride. I put around a grand into my GTP, and got it under 14 sec quarter (13.8 to be exact) which is faster than the TL.

A good driver in a stock TL could prevail against a good driver in a stock GTP IMO. If driven correctly, the Acura can really scream.

 

Power to weight ratio. Do the math.

 

The TL will beat a stock GTP any day of the week. The better battle for the TL is the GXP, which was just released and seems to be a pretty fast car. A good race would be the GXP vs. the TL 6MT.

 

It does seem like the GTP w/hand full of mods can run well with the likes of the M3 and S4. ....gotta love forced induction.

Stock v. stock, auto v. auto, I'd bet on the GTP though.

A neighbor of mine has an 04 GTP and I've considered propositioning him with a friendly runoff against my 02 Maxima.

 

The only way the stock GTP wins is if the TL driver doesnt comprehend that he needs to torque the launch. The TL will out trap and out mid-range the stock GTP every day of the week. (Experience)

Now let's not even talk about the aftermarket for the GTP because it's ridiculous and those things screen for a few bucks.


(I might as well add that if you even try a stock one from a roll you should expect to see him in your rear view mirror, their stock saving grace is 0-60.)

 

It depends on the driver!

 

the TL feels more like a sports car unlike the GTP. GTP feels more like a family car.

 

I would be interested in GXP, GTP isn't really of my concern.
