I have a 06 TL base with Aspec Kit. put the 2006 - 2007 STI lip on, it is NOT bolt right up. some of the tabs match but you cant rely on them all. you do have to some screws into the Aspec lip. nothing nasty, looks clean still..... I Installed mine with the help of my 2 year old son in about 15 min tops.
Heating will not change the shape. It is polyurethane already set. You can bolt on side of the lip to the car then pull the other side a couple inches and bolt it up. The bumper and lip will be held together under pressure and if a couple bolts come loose you will have a heck of a time stretching it back as the lip will return to its normal position.
They look totally different to people with an eye for detail. The home depot lip looks cheap regardless that is IS cheap. The STI lip is still cheap at only 50-100 tops and looks 100x better as it is a real front lip and not a garage door weather stripping add on.
I can tell the difference in a heart beat. Check it out...
EZ Lip looking ugly. It double sided tapes to your bumper so it follows the lines of your bumper. Making it painfully obvious it is not a front lip and just a piece of weather stripping TAPPED to the front bumper. Gross.
Now the STI lip looks like a real lip. It will actually function as a front lip and increase air flow over the top verse bottom. The EZ lip is thin rubber and literally bends in the wind while your drive.

And speaking of STI lips... here is mine on my ILX followed by the link I used as reference for my install.
You can see there is A LOT more to this lip than the ez lip. It actually jets out from the car verse hanging under it.
As for protecting the bumper. There was one ILXer that caught a curb with his EZ lip... scratched the bottom of the bumper and tore the EZ lip off... If you go up an incline the EZ lip is literally pushed under the car or torn off.
Here...
On a crazy incline... Im not that low.. you can see my bumper isnt even touching the ground. The lip is. An EZ lip would be tore off by this. No joke.
And here is the link I used for reference. Pretty easy. I did it alone.

The aspec may make it look smaller as stated.
Also you can pull the lip slightly to make it look a little wider.
One Ilx owner preferred the sides of the lip to stick out about an inch on both sides. I opted to make it exactly the same width as my front bumper... which then ended up being slightly narrower than my oem lip.
There are many many sellers with this poly 06 sti lip.
Since you will be cutting it up I suggest spending around $50-80 on ebay.

yeah if you know lips and cars you can totally tell the diff with Home Depot and actual.
The Aspec makes it look narrower, and I didnt do any cuts or stretching. some like it coming out the sides a little, I opted for it to come flush on the sides. 69.99 On Ebay delivered in 1 day (west Coast). not a bad deal and I like it. also makes your car look a little lower with the aspec and everything.

Two lips aren't overkill when one is an OEM kit and the second is a splitter.
That splitter simply doesnt fit correctly with the OEM kit. A correct size splitter looks good on almost any car.
Any splitter should fit similar to this in order to look correct. Here the STI splitter, the one being talked about here, sits about an inch wider than the bumper.
So of course it will look bad on a car that is wider than that.
The splitter under that, by aeroflow dynamics, sits even wider, how a splitter should sit.
I can guarantee if the splitter fit the TL like it did this suby, it would look great.
Try doing what one TL owner did and buy 2 lips at 50 a pop and cut them at like a 60/40 and 40/60 ratio then connect the two 60% pieces to make a wider splitter.
Or contact aeroflow and have them machine you an aluminum splitter that fits for like $300.
