Steering Wheel "A" Emblem Painted

Hey guys i am new to the site and this is my first post. After a lot of reading around I have become aware of the chrome "A" emblem's colour fading due to armour-all and the like. I stripped and re-painted the "A" in gun metal and am thinking about doing the same for the exterior "A" emblems. Let me know what you guys think. THanks!!

Got rid of the old chrome finish with a kitchen scrub and windex, it took less effort to scrub off than failing my last college course.

Emblem Before:

Shaved:

Prepped:

Painted with Tape on:

Nice job.

I hate those creases around the emblem, too.

Thanks for the feedback. Really easy fix for an annoying problem, just takes time for it to dry but i used a blowdryer. I will probably go ahead and paint the outside emblem's as well because i have so much left over paint. I'll keep you guys posted in a new thread.

Not only in the steering wheel but the leather doesn't age very well either.

What did you use to "prep it"? Also, what type of paint did you use?

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I attempted to take off the TL badge on the trunk to paint, after a failed diy tint job, and i applied a coat to it just to see how it would turn out and it looked pretty good. Unfortunately, i do not have time to complete all the emblems today and i would like to have time to finish all of them at the same time. Therefore i will probably tackling this the next day i get off. Thanks!!! and i will keep you guys updated.

Yeah Tamiya model paint, Gun metal gloss x-10, and clear coat x-22. Not much to prep it other than the windex and letting the base dry. Paint was applied straight to the base.

i don't know how to multi quote reply but white would have looked funny because it doesn't really flow with the car and its not really white its more of a yolky colour.

It doesn't seem that the exterior emblems can be stripped because they seem to be coated or lined or whatever and it seems to have been casted that way. Although it is pretty easy to paint over it and the brand that i used stuck well.

Red would also be like white i'm sure unless you have red ambient lights or some type of accent that could offset the emblem in the steering wheel!

I painted mine too. The chrome actually wipes off because of the use of armoral.

What did you use to "shave" the emblem in the prep section?Did you use sandpaper? How did the emblem become white?

the multi-qoute button is right next to the qoute button all you need to do is hit that on each post you want to qoute. the when you type in what you want just look in between the word "qoute" in your reply.

and as for my choices in white(wdp) the color of my car or red as I do have red lighting in the car(type s) either one would set the interior off. I do think the red would stand out more then the white would which would be more subtle.

I also have chrome silver maybe I'll just do it in that color instead.

The pic of the emblem all white was after you used just windex and a kitchen scrub?

Would plastidip peel off the steering wheel, or would you still have to tape around it?

I noticed my steering wheel emblem fading as well. Thanks for letting me know the cause for this. I didn't think to use a kitchen scrubber and windex to make the shaving even. I stared to use a swiss army knife carefully lol. Its not complete but I will give it a try with the previous stated method. I think the glow in the dark base color looks good. I would like to paint mines gold. I think it would look great with my tan interior and Pearl Green paint.
