Arrow Steering Wheel Button's

I would like someone to confirm if the "volume" and "channel" buttons on the left side of the steering wheel illuminate when the parking or headlights are turned on.

Those buttons do not illuminate at night and I cannot remember if they ever did. I tried looking at pic's on the net, but can't find any with the steering wheel shown at night.

Thanks in advanced.

I'm pretty sure they do, the only ones that don't are the cancel voice command button (if you have navi) and the hang up button for HFL.

On my non-navi 2004TL, every button everywhere lights up, except for the switch that controls the mirror adjustment selection and the mirror heater, and the window buttons.

Thanks guys.

I wanted to confirm this because I just noticed that the audio remote switch - which holds the Mode, Volume & Channel buttons - does not iluminate. Only the "mode" button illuminates. I am gonna wait 'till my next oil change, which will probably be the B1 service at around 27,000 to get this fixed.

Hey not bad with my mileage to have my first problem. I will take it in sooner for service if other lights stop working.

you can either bring it to acura or just replace the bulbs yourself, very easy to do, just need to remove the airbag to access it

Yeah, it's still under warranty.

I do not want to mess with the airbag device. It's weird that those two button lights went out, but not the "mode" button on top. I see in my Acura manual that the whole peice that holds these buttons comes out easy. Since it's still under warranty, I don't want to mess with the buttons and scratch up the silver plastic cover holding the buttons.

It's gonna be awhile 'till I go get this taken care of under warranty. I will report back if it's something else than a blown bulb.

I checked my fuses and everything checks ok.

I was just about to take my car in to the dealer for these 2 buttons not light up! I had just noticed it the other day. I wonder why Acura decided they didn't need to light these up? Anyone have ideas?

Weird. The first time I noticed this, I too thought I had a blown bulb's. I guess while you are driving at night and you glance down to hit the HFL or the other button, they didn't want you to hit the wrong lit up buttons below. I haven't hit the wrong one yet, but i pretty much can feel the right one's.

it's definetly a blown bulb, there are 2 in there, and both are on the same circuit, so if 1 is blown and 1 isn't, then it's the bulb

do not try to pry out the buttons, they are held in by 2 screws that can only be access from underneath after you remove the airbag

if you feel like removing it here are the instructions

Ah, yes indeed! It was only recently that I got a new RAZR and paired it up with the HFL. Before that, I had hardly noticed it. Thanks for the info.

on my 05 TL, all of the steering wheel buttons light up including voice and phone buttons

also found out last night that the buttons can be removed without taking the airbag off.

turn the wheel a little and you'll notice the 2 holes that have the philips head screws, take the 2 out, and the buttons pop right out. tried it last night, and did it in about 5 minutes

RBF351: thanxs for the info, but I'll let the dealer take care of this since it's still under warranty. I felt those two screws behind the audio switch remote last night driving to work.

OK. I took these two picture's to clear things up. It looks like some members have all the buttons on the steering wheel illuminate at night, including the "hang-up" & "cancel voice" (back) buttons as well. I have a 2004 TL w/ Navi and both "back" buttons never did illuminate at night.

For those members that do have these specific "back" buttons illuminate at night:

What year TL?

Navi or non-navi?

US or Canada model?

Good pic "rbf". My buttons are black not blue. It must be the color on your monitor. So do your "back" buttons light up at night?

BTW, looks like you have the airbag outline on the horn pad. I heard others had this, but did it take time to appear or it come like that?

I would say not only do mine light up (as confirmed here), but they also get quite warm. Funny how Acura uses low-power LED's for side markers and taillights but can't keep heat down on steering wheel button lights...

vic882: Thanks for confirming that the "volume" & "channel" buttons light up at night. Also, it looks like that your "back" buttons - the cancel call & cancel voice buttons - do not light up. Mines don't either & I want to know which owners have these light up. thanks.

I can barely make out an image, but it seems that we have the same buttons lighting up down below. I thought you said "all" your buttons light up, but in the pic it seems that both "back" buttons do not- cancel HFL(hangup) and cancel voice buttons.

xristos, mine do light up. It's the other 2 to the left (Voice command and HFL answer) that are NOT lighting up on mine. What are the chances that they both blow out at the same time? I guess I do have to pay my dealer a visit after all.

here is the same pic, but i lightened it up in photoshop so you can see it clearer, and now you can see all 4 buttons light up, thats why the appear green, otherwise they would be white or not visable

i know it's not a clear pic, but it's the best i have until i try to take another pic tonight

I noticed my buttons, or at least the aluminum around them, getting quite warm also. I wonder if this is related to the early failure of the bulbs?

has nothing to do with failure, lightbulbs create heat, go outside your car after the headlights/parking light have been on for a few minutes, the plastic will be warm to the touch out there

Good job on the clarification on what lights up & on the picture!

Well now I know that my VOLUME and CHANNEL button's have blown bulb's. What I did not know was that the BACK buttons below did light up. Mine never did light up when I bought the car new.

I will take care of this when I bring in the car for the B2 service due in about 3 months.

I am wondering if only the late 2004 TL's started lighting up these BACK button's or they were always lighting up since the begining of the 2004 model's. I have a 2004 TL/ NBP/ AT/ NAVI which was built early July.

This is just weird. Thank you all for your post's.

according to Honda's parts catalog (http://www.partspeis.com) those buttons have always lit up and have the same part number which is 35890-SEP-A11

it also uses 2 bulbs, do it is possible 1 has blown out, or just never worked
