Question Steel or Aluminum jack stands?

I just need a pair of jack stands for oil change and rotate tires for my 08 acura but don't know which material is stronger.

sears has 3ton jack stands made out of stamped steel for $25

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...rd=jack+stands

harbor freight also has 3ton jack stands made out of aluminum for $40

I have used both and haven't had any problem with either. I would say that the steel ones are heavier but by no means does that mean they are better. You can't really go wrong with either. Me personally i would just go with the sears ones for two reasons. First you can just run down and pick them up. Second they are craftsman. For what you wanna do those craftsman are more than enough without the wait and they're cheaper.

We have harbor freight local store here in town. Sears carries a set of 3ton floor jack, jack stands and creeper for $99. Do you think it's worth it?

A 3 ton jack, jack stands and a creeper for $100 now that's a deal. yeah you can't go wrong there. I would jump on that. but make sure when you jack up your car with that jack use the plates in the front and back of the car. and make sure the nuts on the wheels of the jack are tight cause they tend to come off after a while in my experience

no you'll see what I'm saying when you get it. there are nuts that hold the wheels on for the jack. i have had those wheels actually come off the jack itself. just by rolling the jack, I'm guessing from vibration the nuts get loosened. they could come loose just something to look out for.

Do put a block behind the opposite side rear wheel when jacking the front
and in front of front wheel when jacking the back,
If raising car from center lift point then put block behind/front both opposite end wheels
Dont want the car moving around. let the jack roll into centering position- not the car rolling to it

Check all the bolts on any jack you use, same for the creeper- wheels get loose
I have harbor freight stuff- nice having a store in town
craftsman quality has gone down in the last few years

What do you guys think about this floor jack?

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=34271

Sears doesn't give dimensions of their floor jacks

If you want a nice jack I would recommend going to northern tool to get one. Harbor freight is nice and cheap but they dont do to well. We have had 2 trans jacks break on us already lol...Not so legit. Personally I would go to northern tool for one but if you think its worth it at HF go for it.

It seems NT has many positives feedback but the shipping fee is killing me.

If you have one nearby you can print out the price on the internet and bring the ad there. Thats what I like about northern tool if you find a lower price on there website you can print it out and bring it to them then they will price match it. Its pretty cool.
