Starting to get a bit discouraged in my search for an '07-'08 TL-S.......
So to preface this....I have a 08 BMW 335i w/ a lein in immaculate condition to trade in and I want to buy from a reputable dealer.
The last 2 weeks I've seen 3 TL-Ss that are local to me (up to 100 miles away)
1st one had sold 30 mins before I got there (2 weeks ago), 2nd one looked like a tornado went through the interior and had other questionables (last weekend), and the 3rd one (yesterday) had 90k miles and the dealer wanted 19k and would not budge. All 3 had been on the lot for months prior to me looking at it.
Also I don't have the time to travel to LA for example for the car. I scanned Autotrader, Edmunds, craigslist, etc and I've seen all the TL-Ss within 100 miles of me. I did not realize how hard it will be to buy this car.
Sorry I dont mean to whine, but I'm getting a bit discouraged here. The wifey says to be patient so, hopefully I'll get a TL-S one day. Funny enough all 3 were CPB color.

Goodluck with the search. Good thing you don't require it to be a manual because then you would be in for a really long wait ;-) It's also a good thing you didn't pay 19+ for that high mileage one because that's just wayy too much.

^ His BMW is a 2008. The cost of ownership should be hitting hard about now lol. Don't be discouraged OP! There is bound to be one near you eventually. Perhaps you should somehow extend your search radius, higher likelihood that not only will you find one, but you'll get a better deal.

OP. Just keep looking. when it got down to it I found mine by checking all the same sources every other day for about 8mo! I was off and on looking for my Type S 6mt for almost 3yrs. they're out there just gotta be ready to buy when the right one comes up

Yeah the wife says just to be patient. I've always liked the TL-S, even when I had my 04 TSX. I've had all Japanese cars and when I was thinking of getting another car, I found a sweet deal on a CPO 08 335i in early 2011.
Cool, I may start looking down there. Thx man!
The extended warranty just expired and I have an recent unpleasant experience w/ BMWNA. I love the cars and the brand, but that experience put me off.

I waited nearly 2 years to have the stars align for me. First it was financing hang ups, then being sold while I was in route, then finding out late it was in an accident, etc etc and it sucked. I finally landed on the exact year and color I wanted and couldn't be happier. Patience is the name of the game and once it happens all the time spent just rolls off your back because who cares, you got a tl type s lol. Good luck sir

you can check carmax nationwide and have a prospect shipped to your closest location...can be expensive though. before one showed up locally for me in dallas, i was contemplating shipping one from CA but it would have cost about $450. finally one showed up in ft. worth and they shipped it to my nearest carmax for free.

There are only 4 TL-Ss at CarMax nationwide.

Also try an alternate approach...
You might attempt what I ended up doing...and successfully found my TL Type-S with a 6MT after looking for a couple of years.
I posted an ad in Craigslist describing that I was looking for, asking if anyone had an extra vehicle, or had one they no longer drove or was looking to sell. I stated that the color did not really matter at this point (would have ultimately preferred a different color) and I was paying CASH (which I was). I will try to find the wording of the ad that I placed and will post it here provided I still have it if you are interested.
Sometimes folks don't realize they want to sell a car until someone brings it to their attention. And if you are offering hard CASH, well, money on the barrelhead always talks.
Good Luck,

I'm also from the Bay area and I bought mine at Jay Wolfe in KC last month. I was in town visiting family and found a red 2007 type S with 6MT. Car was in great shape and I've been very happy with the purchase. I wouldn't have bought it though if I didn't have the chance to see it up close. I looked for weeks around SF and didn't have much luck.

I picked up a tls at 19k with around 91k miles and the dealer would not budge. I'm glad I got it cause It was WDP, sadly not black leather interior. I keep looking up tls ever since I got it and not a single TLs has appeared with my taste of color. Short story I'm glad I picked it up while I could. If you have a preference in color then def give it time cause you might regret buying a TLS that isn't your taste

I looked for months before I found the one I wanted, when I just about gave up trying to find a six speed I found the one I had been searching for. Patience will get you a much better car and a better deal.

Ditto on the patience that everyone is talking about. I looked for about 2 months before finding my 07 TL-S with 15,500 miles but it was 2150 miles away. It was posted on Cars.com. Sometimes they have the same cars as Autotrader but not always. It was at an Acura dealership and they took as many pictures as I asked them to. In my travels I found for the most part the quality of car went up with the quality of the brand (cars at Kia and Toyota dealerships were not as nice as those at an Acura dealership, etc.) If you're buying on Autotrader they have a referral type service where you can hire someone through them to go inspect the car, take pictures, take a test drive, etc. for a fee. Might be worth the piece of mind.

If you don't mind me asking, why can't you travel anywhere to pick it up? If you found the perfect car 1,000 miles away, would taking a day off work, flying there and driving it home be worth it?
I ask because that is exactly what I had to do, otherwise I wouldn't have ended up getting one. I flew from Sacramento to LA, the dealership picked me up from the airport in the car, I test drove it back to the dealership and drove it home.

Just be patient and keep looking man. All these guys on AZ helped me figure out what I wanted to do with buying one. I waited and looked and waited and finally found one in Charlotte and flew down there and drove it back to Cincinnati the same day. I know it might sound crazy but it was awesome. I suggest looking on searchtempest.com and just typing in the year TL that you want. That's how I did it and found this one. I'm one of the guys that would only buy a 6 speed and it took a flight to buy it. Keep looking and be patient, you'll find one! Once you do, it is a great feeling. Unless you are 21 and just found out your insurance quote like myself haha. Good luck man!

Hi just joined the forum as I just bought my first tl.
I looked for about a month and a half and test drove maybe 4.
I found one for 69k miles and purchased it for 21k. A couple grand more than I was willing to pay but this tl felt a lot smoother and tighter then all the other tls in my area and it is very clean besides the normal scratches here and there. I really like the car and don't mind I over paid a bit.
I got a ton of questions so after my trial is over I may start a few threads around here.
Looks like I cant post pics yet either but its an 08 grey type s with tan interior

How is Carmax? I see they advertise a no haggle price, but is it really? Is there room to nego? I got a lead on one 2 hrs away from me and a bit hesitant as I've read mixed reviews on yelp (don't know anyone who dealt with them)

Question for you man.....was the car advertised for that price or did you negotiate?
The one I made an appointment to see has 111k miles and asking is $18k.
I was hoping to negotiate, but if I can't then there is no point in going because I am not paying $18k for a car w/ $111k miles.
