Starting car and idling at 800 RPM's normal or to low?
08 TL type S
My car has been having some issues lately and i have to replace some coils in the engine. When i start the car it idles at about 800 RPMs and i feel like that is lower than it used to be.
Any help?????

When I start my car in the morning and idle is about 1,100.
After warm up its about 800.
When you start to dip below 800, typically around 500 rpms, you will feel and hear the engine/exhaust start to sputter a bit. In my AT, this has happened twice and it feels like the car is a MT and you're letting the clutch out without giving it gas.

My car idles at something like 1800 RPM when it's well below freezing outside. Generally it idles quite loudly and a bit rough when cold. Once it warms up, the high 700-low 800's is about right. It's difficult to tell its running at warm idle aside from the vibration in the wheel. When the car is 'hot' its even smoother.
This has been my experience with my previous J powered vehicle, as well as the other ones I have been in.

Cold idle speed depends on how cold and the idle drops as it warms up. Around freezing, mine is around 1,100rpm. Once warm and in gear it's around 600rpm. Even with a bad coil the ECU will at least try to keep the correct idle. In a DBW car it's pretty easy to keep the correct idle even with problems. If the ECU is unable to keep the correct idle speed there will be a CEL.
