Starter replacement?

I searched all through the Garage and 3G boards but couldn't find anyone who has replaced their starter. (Maybe I just suck at searching??)

Surely someone has replaced it (or at least has the scans *cough* Ron *cough*)

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I replaced my starter a couple months ago.

What do you want to know?

Assuming you have your new starter in hand already, it's quite a simple process, but very time consuming.

This is what I did:

1. Disconnect the battery terminals.
2. Remove battery.
3. Remove battery tray (hardest step of all). You need to remove it to get access to the starter. There are a few screws on top and a couple screws on the bottom. The bottom screws are the ones that are stubborn. I took out some pieces of the air tube (idk, it's rubber and they connect together) to get access to the bottom screws.
4. Take out battery tray.
5. From here it's just direct replacement. Unplug etc, and mount on.
6. Reassemble.

Right now, I'm just wondering if it would be easier to replace it from underneath the car =(

Thanks for the info.

I was wondering the same thing (if it would be easier from under the car) so I might give that a shot. Either way I'll take some pictures and try and make another article for the garage.

Where did you get your starter from? Is there any one starter better then another? I was quoted just over $300 for just the part from my local Acura dealership, but found them for less then half of that on eBay.

Well when we tried to start the car and it wouldn't start, we called a good old friend of our's and told him the problem.

Next day he came over with a starter (definitely not new) and installed it for us.
Worked like a charm, gave him some money.
Let me tell you this, we didn't have to pay him $300.

It's nice to have good friends =P
