start with synthetic at 87k?

Just bought '06 WDP black interior w\navi. Previous owner always used regular oil. Now Oil life reads 30%. Do you guys think it is a good idea to start using Mobil One 5w-30 full synthetic oil. I use synthetic on all my cars...

Owner never did transmission fluid. Any other recommendations\suggestions ?

navi dvd ver is 3.5 ... worth upgrading to 3.9 ?

No problem in switching, but don't see any reason to, just use Dino 5-20.
Trans fluid is dependent upon mileage. The OE is 100k fluid, but don't see any problem with the change @ 60k. Fluid type your choice, I use Z1.
I've upgraded the disc each year, worth it, I don't know, it's available so I buy it. If you go to the Acura store you can see the list of updates for each version, so you can be the judge.
3.9 and hit map coverage:

3.8:

You can call up the rest if needed

You can switch to synthetic if you want.
Check the transmission fluid color, Since it's been this long.

Do not pass "Go". Do not collect $200. DEFINITELY do the the tranny fluid, the full 3x3.

While honda ATF might last 100K in one of their normal transmissions, I would definately not wait that long to change it in your TL. Do it now.

Considering that people who drive normally get 8-10K+ out of their oil via MIDS and it does not know about synthetic, just keep using dino oil.....honestly unless you are WOT all the time there is no difference for the average joe.

2002 CLS and I can easily go 7200 miles between changes on dino oil......only thing I use synthetic in is my vin0 125 where the engine spends > 80% WOT......

car has 94K on it and does not leak or burn a drop of oil.

Oil

Once you go to synthetic, you cannot go back. It may also start "using" oil. I would stay with the oem dino oil.

It's NEVER a bad time to switch to synthetic. I've been using it since the car's 1st oil change at 4,000 miles. On my last visit to Acura of Manhattan 5 months ago, Tony the head mechanic pulled off the oil cap, called me over, pointed inside and said "Look In There, See How Clean It Is? That's Because You've Been Using Synthetic".

Case Closed!

I use NAPA's own brand of 5W-20 Synthetic, which is Valvoline Synpower inside NAPA's packaging and the 1334 NAPA Gold Oil Filter which is a WIX. Amongst all the different brands of filters I've used over the years, this one seems to keep oil clean the longest. No need to spend $12+ on a Mobil1 or a K&N.

As I've stated in previous threads on the subject, though I'm sure Mobil1 is good stuff, ExxonMobil made over $45 BILLION in profits in 2008 while ripping us off for almost $5 a gal at the pump. Their gas prices are also consistently 8-12¢ higher than all the other brands, why? I don't think they need any more of my money, OR YOURS.

Just an FYI-The fluid is only colored red and will darken with mileage and that is normal.

This is 100% wrong. You absolutely CAN switch back to dino oil if you want.

It doesn't really matter which brand you buy, chances are you are still feeding Exxon Mobil with money. How you ask? Exxon Mobil is the largest producer of synthetic base stock on the planet, many other oil manufacturers purchase some of those bases for use in their product.

Depends on the condition of the fluid you removed. Normally it will turn brownish and even have an odor, but if it is burnt, then it's beyond its life expectancy.
Too bad we can't do a smell test over the net.

I started using synthetic at about the 200k mile mark in my 89 CRX Si. I didn't have any problems. I run Mobil-1 High Mileage 10w30. It's been several years now and almost 20k miles. No problems and still get 41+ mpg...

Now, that is a HONDA> 200k miles and running strong. I wish my car will last that long. Just check my oil and noticed it is 1/4 inch above FULL mark, will go back to the mechanic tomorrow leave the car for 20min and ask him to take it out...

It's fine, there is no need to drain any of the oil.

Sorry if i sound like a noob but why can't you go back to regular oil? What happens to the engine if you do?

absolutely nothing, but once you switch to synthetic I dont see why you would want to go back. I recently changed the oil in my 06 I just purchased to mobile 1 fully synthetic and the engine has come alive

You can go back and forth, you can mix them together, no issues.

Synthetic is really up to you. I've run it since the car's first oil change. It offers many advantages, I'm too tired to rewrite them. I think it would be the 50th time writing it on here.

Mobil One "fully synthetic" 5w-30 is not synthetic, it's a group III highly refined dino oil. I'm actually tired of saying that too, maybe I'll stop.

Stock Z1 fluid is total junk. Too friction modified and a terrible base oil. You should have used an aftermarket fluid. I think I'm tired of writing this too.

Search if you want to learn more and the reasons why.

That "fully synthetic" marketing really works. I've never seen an oil quoted as "fully synthetic" more than this stuff and it's not even synthetic.

unless you plan on an extended change interval and drive your car hard, i don't see why you need synthetic oil...

if you follow the MID, save your dollars and just use dino... i'll only use synthetic on the tranny as that seems to be the weak point...
