A 6-banger just ain't going to sound like a V8 because of the timing of the power pulses. A 6-cylinder engine fires every 120 crankshaft degrees. An eight does this every 90 degrees. Big difference.

For that matter, why do Ford V8s sound different than Chevy V8s?

For that, it's mostly timing order. But there are many different things that make a particular engine sound like it does. Could be diameter of any part of the exhaust up to and including the headers, cam lobe, etc.

American V8's sound very similar. But they sound much different from Ferrari's and Lamborghini because rear engine + different exhaust note + engine components.

Also lower displacement + overhead cams v. pushrods = higher rpm for the Italian and Euro V8s.

Hey, I can add 50 HP to my TL just by adding the "S" and VTEC stickers, without the loud, annoying Magnaflow or Borla exhaust notes.

Dodge Charger SRT8 is a real sweet ride.

I got a Charger as a rental car for a business trip and man they pack alot of torque. I didnt' get the Hemi one but just the V6 one but I can only imagine how much better a Hemi would have been.
