SportShift - 2nd --> Auto When Going "Fast"
SportShift - 2nd --> Auto When Going "Fast"
While accelerating onto the freeway today, I forgot I was in 2nd in SS mode. I had a brain fart, and instead of shifting up to 3rd, 4th, etc., I slid the shifter to auto. I'm not sure, but I was @ W.O.T. and pretty much at highway speed when I did this. Once into auto., I felt like three sort of like "clicks", which I assume was the tranny making it way to 5th gear.
Anyway, anyone know of what type of damage to my tranny, if any, I may have done by doing this just once? The car doesn't feel any different, but I am concerned. It just seems logical that doing something like this on a regular basis would really screw it up. Thanks for any help.

2nd to Auto? I dont see any damage linked to doing this. I do it All The Time.
If you are revving high at 2nd, no matter how hard you give gas, It won't downshift. That means in that given situation I would assume tranny upshifted to 3rd as soon as u placed it in auto mode.

Definitely shouldn't have any issues with that shift. :-)
Like Jesstzn /Actuary mentioned, the "brain"/computer just took over the instant you shifted into "Auto". My guess is you also released a little foot pressure on the gas peddle due to the transmission actually shifting from 2nd to 3rd to etc., etc..
No worries mate.
Cheers
