A Spec Steering Wheel Install

What should I expect to pay the dealer to install my new steering wheel?

Also have a CT RSB for the dealer to do at the same time. Install Price??

Any Acura Technicians, please chime in.. or anyone else who has had this done without the full A-Spec package..

thanks...

P.S. Just got my A-Spec suspension installed for $280.

There is nothing in the 3G Garage about this, probably because of the air bag concerns, which means if you don't know what you are doing when you remove the steering wheel you could risk serious injury, or worse.

The airbag has to be removed first, and there are specific instructions for this in the service manual. I will definitely not scan these pages from the service manual and post here because of liability concerns to the forum.

I've switched out a couple of steering wheels in the past and they where pretty simple. You def have to be careful with the air bag things (make sure u never start your car when the SRS is unpluged, you will get an indicator that will require a reset by the dealer).

www.acurakid.com there are pics of the a-spec wheel...

I would let the dealer do the install.. you don't want any malfunction with the SRS

If you were referring to me - I was answering somebody else's question.

As far as yours, the dealer installed the entire a-spec for me for $600... I would guess that 400 was for the suspension, 100 for the body kit, and less than a hundred for the steering wheel... it is not a long process... i doubt it would take more than an hour, and most dealers charge around 100 per hour of labor

How about calling dealers in your area and getting a price? Then if it is unreasonable negotiate with them.. you can always negotiate prices - especially since they do these things enough that it won't take them the full amount of time as stated in the install instructions from amer. honda

Also, for the RSB the dealer said it took them 15 minutes to install - so they didn't charge me extra for it. If anything $50 at the most for the install price... do a search for the RSB

The dealer has been open since your first post, so I would suggest calling your particular dealer, or any nearby dealer you might want to use, for the cost of installation. You could have had accurate information from your dealer long before all of this discussion went on.

Unless someone responds who had it done at your particular dealer, the information may not apply so it is always best to check directly.

I understand there are times when something happens while the dealer is closed and may not be open for a couple of days and people want to get some idea of the cost, but that definitely doesn't apply here.

I just had a wood wheel installed for $70.00 at the dealership... When I got there, they were quick to tell me that they would honor the price, but that the person who quoted that price to me over the phone was off by about half... Normally, they want $150...

RON A, Take it Easy...

I was inquiring to find out what other TL owners paid so I don't overpay.
What's your deal with telling me I can't? I already called the dealer and have a price. Call me a savvy consumer, nothing more. Try to be positive, okay?

Hey now, what is with the hostility? Ron A is correct.... besides if you have a price why don't you post it so we can give you an idea if it is a decent price? Most people havn't installed the wheel seperate from the rest of the a-spec. He is a moderator in the forun, so I do believe he can tell you that - and he happens to be correct.

We are not hostile people on the boards here, so I think everybody needs to give each other a break here.

Thanks all for the info. I appreciate the members who responded to my question relating to cost. As well as the others who shared their insight into other install alternatives...

Thanks Again....

hey now..

I was not the mega member who stated I am wasting bandwidth with the community by asking a good question when I could be contacting Honda Motors for inflated prices.

Best price I have received was $100. I hope most members understand why I requested this information..

gman - please.... you are welcome to post your questions and comments on the site, I think the overall point is that, if you give us a dollar amount that the dealer has offered you, you will likely get responses from people who will say negotiate the price down.

As far as your $100, I guessed that the cost would be $50, so I would go to your dealer and say other dealers are offering it for $75 and take the deal.

Above, somebody said they were charged $70, but should have been charged $150 - so I think the price quote you have gotten is reasonable.

Although there is not a lot of work involved in changing out the steering wheel, it should be mentioned, again, that the SRS is the major concern.

I assume you already own the steering wheel, it should have come with dealer installation instructions. If not, the dealer you purchased it from should be able to mail/email/fax you the instructions. You can see they are not lengthy - and I don't remember from my instructions (I don't know where they are) but it may include a note about how long it should take for the install. If it says an hour, then $100 is close to an accurate amount (as most dealers I have seen charge $100/hour). If it says 30 minutes, then closer to the $50 I mentioned earlier.

Another option would be to call up Falconi Acura in Vegas, or Curry Acura in New York - call their parts dept and say you are interested in purchasing the steering wheel and you want to know how long it should take for a dealer to do the install. Then you can base the cost on that.

And, as far as the bandwidth, I am not sure where that came from - but bandwidth is expensive to run the site. Take it easy, give everybody a break, we are only here to help each other - but be reasonable with the rest of us also - especially the ones that have been here for a long time like RON A - the moderator.

Hello vikrampatel,

thank you for the details. I will negotiate for a $50-$75 and maybe be able to get the RSB done at the same time for a total of $100.

I purchased all my A-Spec parts from Falconi. The 1 hour install seems to be a round-up time for all installs that take less.

Just needed that thicker steering wheel. Anything to get this TL to feel like
my 540i 6-speed.

Will keep everyone advised of the final cost...

I never said you couldn't ask, and I never said you were wasting bandwidth, but you didn't seem to be getting any good replies. As vikrampatel said, if you had indicated you already had a price (which you could easily have done) then I wouldn't have said that either.

I was just trying to suggest that you check with the dealer because everything you said indicated that you didn't do it yet and didn't know what a good price would be even if someone told you.

Your 'suggestion' post seemed negative to me with a subliminal message of 'don't ask your question here'.

Note taken. Thank you for the response..
