Can I obtain a thin spare key to keep in my wallet? If so, would this key just open the door, or also work in the ignition?
How do others deal with the spare key issue?
Thanks

Welcome to the forums. Don't forget to check out the 3G Garage.
If the spare key doesn't have the immobilizer chip then it will just open the door, and you won't be able to use it to start the car.
I made a spare key at Lowe's which I keep in the garage so if I need to turn the ignition on to read the MID, or unlock the door, etc, and don't have my regular key I can use it.
If you can find a place to make the thin ones that fit in the wallet, you could then hide a regular key inside the car. I hid my valet key outside somewhere under the car so if I am away and lose my keys or lock them in the car, I can use it to open the door and also to start the car.

I'm pretty sure it is not necessary.... the TL will not lock unless you lock it, so a key is not needed, unless you open your trunk and toss your keys in there, then close the trunk before unlocking the doors.
I unlocked my TL to get something when I was driving in another car, and a few hours later, came back and the doors were not locked...
If I were you, I'd keep the spare(valet) key somewhere in the car, and do what Ron A did and get a copy from a Lowe's or Ace etc., and keep it in your wallet.
I'm about to get one, I am stuck with a big wallet right now, but I havn't had the chance to make a thin spare.
Anyways, if you find a solution other than this, keep us updated: this is another thing people hate about these huge keys
, but it's for security.

I could be wrong but I think If you open and close a door and nothing is touched for a certain period of time the car locks itself... I have been sitting in the car and had this happen to me. Not really sure what caused this. I really would like to have a push button start and also just keep the key in my pocket and have the car auto unlock, it's really hard to believe that a Prius can have this feature but not a TL... Oh well...
