Someone tried to steal my headlights

Someone tried to steal my headlights by prying off my bumper, but was unsuccessful. Now I have 2 pry marks and maybe some internal damage. I went to dealer to try to have them install the full nose mask, but they could not install it because of the physical damage to the bumper. What should I do to get this fixed without emptying my wallet?

Nevets31, where did this happen? which borough? street?

WTF, I thought you can't steal headlights from 3G? I know I had it happen twice in my 2000 TL, but in a 3G? And in NYC? DAMN!

i don't think ppl know exactly how hard it is and how long it takes to remove a 3G headlight..

i know that the RX330 Lexus SUVS were an easy target and actually saw an RX down the street of my house with hollow housings

actually.. in NY the acura ballasts are a popular theft.. but not the most popular..

if you dont care about the condition of the bumper or the damage you cando, you can probably get those lights off ... in.... 15 minutes with a 10mm sock wrench... I have blacked so many sets of 3G headlights, that i can have the bumper and headlights off in under 30 minutes in my garage.. being careful.. imagine if you are theif.. its quite possible

the #1 ever was i believe the 01 - 03 Maxima..

Amazing.

This was more of a problem with the 2G TL, particularly in the NYC metro, and as a result, Acura redesigned the headlights on the 3G TL specifically to reduce this type of theft.

If you'd had a 2G TL, you'd be posting pics of hollow headlight spaces as removing the headlights took only a few minutes. It simply takes too long on a 3G TL to make it worth someone's while to do it, and I suspect the guys who did this to the OP's car simply ran out of time.

Unhappy

I guess the idiots couldn't proceed without cracking the housing for the HID lights, but now I need to fix the problem. Any suggestions? I guess it is too late to file a claim with the insurance. Plus I don't want it to go up b/c of these idiots.
Thank you everyone for your input.

Hi Nevets, it's not too late to file for insurance, thats why you pay them. Get if fixed thru them, if will not go up, maybe 60 bucks a year.

I wished you caught those jerk-offs, I would of kicked their ass personally for all the crap they've done to my 2G. Stupid ignorant ricer bastards. The HID kits are so cheap now,why steal them, save and buy.

Call your insurance company. You insurance will not go up for a comprehensive claim. What is the purpose of having insurance if you can't file a claim? Just call the police and get a report made, then call your insurance company. Your rates will not go up and it is not too late.

My Geico hated me by the 2nd time they had to fix my headlights, bumpers and even frame. But they have no choice My annual went up by 30 bux first time, and 60 bux second time...now it dropped to normal.

On the 3G, please don't tell me that the transformers are still in the back of headlights like in 2G?

PS. I spent over $1200 on Clifford 3.5 Matrix with all the sensors, bells and whistles, save your money! It doesn't help, well at least not in NYC, no one cares about a beeping alarm. I should of ran a live wire so when they crawbared my poor TL, they would of gotten a shock of a life time. And then you see little ricer 1996 civics with your HIDs in 'em.

One time me and my friend went for sushi, two TLs, we came out, our headlights were gone, thats 20 mins later. The cops in Brooklyn know EXACTLY who is doing it, they said in order to catch them, someone must witness the action. Nice, egh? It takes less then 30 secs per headlight, again, info from a cop.

You will have a hard time regarding a police report since it happened last year, so do make a report, but don't make it "last years" problem. Do you have any cop friends?

In regards to the insurance this means nothing, example, I lease cars, I do all of my work done (fixing/ a few touch ups / glass) a week prior of returning the car. It doesn't matter when it happened. You are paying for it, especially with our NYC insurance rates.

Please don't misinform. When he will apply for a NEW policy, his rate may (and probably will) go up very slightly. In NYC, our insurance companies are very skeptical and are run by Mr.Scrooge himself. I simply take those driving lectures, and they drop my insurance $$$ significantly.

No problem. Ask you cop friend to write a report for you, it's legal and painless Or call the plain police, but file this report as recent, to get less bs from geico.

Now I need a favor from you, if you spot the bastards who are doing this, HIT, HIT and continue to HIT them, and oh yeah, hit them again, have fun with it, go Rocky Balboa on them

Hey Nevets, the same exact thing happened to me a year or so ago. Although i have a 2nd Gen. TL, I had a similar damage. They tried to pry mine off from the hood. My hood was folded up. The housing was damaged so moisture seaped in which built up and popped my bulb and fried my HID's.

Just go file a police report and go through your insurance to have it fixed.
