Some Gripes

Hello,

I've had my 2004 TL since February. Previously I had a 1998 Toyota Camry V6 XLE and a 2001 V6 XLE. Overall I really love this car.

I do have some problems, and I'd like some comments.

1) Rough ride when I first start driving
I've seen some tire discussion and I'm wondering if this is my problem.
I'm not an "enthusiast" so I don't know much about technical stuff.
When I first start driving each day the car just feels "rough." It seems
to get better after a few minutes

2) Vibrating brakes
Maybe this has something to do with ABS (again, I'm not up on these things). When I first leave my house, I always get this weird feeling on the brake pedal. Also, if I'm braking and hit a bump, the brakes seem to vibrate.
There are times when I feel like the car is seizing up and I'm losing control.

3) Bluetooth phone
This is a great feature, which overall works pretty well. However, I find the voice recognition to be weak. It confuses names more times than it gets it right, and when I say numbers directly, it very often gives me a zero instead of a two. Also, the system often come on in phone mode, and doesn't display the radio panel. One time, the system would not recognize the phone at all, and the buttons didn't work at all. I was about to call my dealer when it suddenly fixed itself.

Well, that's it. I don't mean to discourage potential buyers, as the car does kick ass in many ways, and is sure beautiful to look at.

Thanks.

It probably is the tires, you say it happens when you first start driving, so my guess is tires.

The ABS buzzes briefly after about 50ft (my car does anyway) not sure what vibration you might be talking about, does the pedal vibrate or do you feel it in the car?
As for feeling like you're losing control, what do you mean by seizing up? Does it feel like the brakes are binding?

Mine almost always gets it wrong the first time so I just resign myself to knowing I'll have to repeat myself most of the time.

Congrats on the purchase! May you have thousands of enjoyable miles!

Bluetooth,

First try when getting into the car is always wrong...second or third work fine...after that it always works...when calling my number you have to speak very quickly for it to understand it no pausing or anything..

This could be either ABS or VSA (Vehicle Stability Assitance). I would imagine its the VSA that makes the brakes vibrate when going over a bump. I experience this as well, and realize that it is normal. If you keep your VSA off, you probably wont experience this....

Regarding BT it inserts lots of 8 for me. However, since the phone book is maintained I do not have any problems with BT.

1) It could be tires (flatspot) or suspension. Based on what you said "it seems to get better after a few minutes", this really looks like "flatspot" symptom.

If you transfer from Camry to 04TL, you definitely feel stiffer.

2) "When I first leave my house, I always get this weird feeling on the brake pedal." means you only feel this once after you start to roll your car, right? Do you hear "thump" or "flap" sound? If so, it's ABS checking. Normal.

I don't know about vibrated brakes, though. However, I do hear something is vibrating while braking in the rough roads.

3) You will learn quickly how to adjust your ways to use Voice recognition of 04TL. Only limited ppl here could use this feature successfully in their first try.

As for other BT issues, your dealer may need to check it up.

It's definitely interesting to hear about all these problems with the number voice recognition of the Hands Free System. I haven't had any problems dictating phone numbers (I do not dictate names, however, as I don't have the phone book set up yet) since I got my BT phone about a month ago.

Mine has never gotten it right the first time, it doesn't bother me, I just repeat it and most times it's fine. Could be my fault as well..

If I am braking over some less-than-perfect road I do feel a very weird vibration come through the brakes. Nothing like the brake is not working or anything, it just feels very weird.
