And The Solution is: WD40
First off.. MODS if this has been posted in the wrong forum, please feel free to move this post to the appropriate one.
We have had our 04 TL since new. It did come with some of the rattles and squeaks associated with a new model year automobile as a lot of members here are all too familiar with.
To me, the most annoying and seemingly only remaining squeek was from the centre console stack, more specifically (sic?), the twin compartment doors under the Tape deck.
I guess it took me this long to finally get up off my derriere and try a few shots of good old WD-40 on the dampered springs. (I own the car, so I am not too worried about having any lease return problems) I also carefully edged a few squirts in between the two compartments and along the edges of both of the storage bins.
To make this long story short, I could have saved myself a few years of griping about the problem buy just doing this in the first place. It seemed to work, so
now have a squeak-free TL.
I am sure everyone on this forum is aware of the location of these bins, so there are no pictures to post.
Anyone else having this problem and willing to give it a go, all I would suggest is be very strict with with the flow of WD-40, because you really, really do NOT want to load the area with this stuff. Be judicious, and it should work.
Cheers

I've always been a bigger fan of silicone spray over WD40 when plastics are involved. I've seem to many cases of plastic appearing to be damaged in the long run with WD. Seems to attract less dirt and dust as well.
Plus silicone spray is good to have around since it works well for cleaning and treating the door seals and window seals (where the windows seat when they are up)
