Bmw 335i

My name is Daniel. I live in Phoenix. In September 2007 I bought a new BMW 335I. At 100 miles the car check engine light came on with a bad high pressure fuel pump. From then on, the car was nothing but bad news. For the next 12 months I went to the BMW dealer 23 times. I finally had to say to BMW to buy their car back because I did not have the time to have it at the dealer 3 times a month. BMW bought the car back and I got the Acura TL Type-S. I have had the car for one year and visited the dealer 2 times for oil changes. All the people I know with BMW 335s had nothing but trouble. The car had issues with the engine overheating, with the seat belt butler, with the fuel pump, with the brake rotors, with the brake lights, with the windshield wiper fluid. After having both cars for one year, there is nothing in the BMW 335 that would make me dump the TL for it. As a matter of fact, I would dump the bimmer for the Acura, which is what I did. Whenever I meet BMW 335 owners, all we talk about is what is wrong with their cars. Go figure...

This is exactly whats keeping me from buying my 335i...

I bought a preowned 2006 BMW X5 4.8is in 2007 with the 100k warranty (For some reason you get a better warranty when you buy a pre-owned BMW vs. a new one) My check engine light did come on once for some reason and car sounded a little weird, I took it to the dealer and it was there for about a week. Total bill was over $5,000, but I didn't have to pay anything cause it was all covered under warranty. Turned out there was something wrong with some sensor that was causing check engine light to come on. I don't think I have ever talked to anyone who has owned a problem free BMW but I just really like the styling and safety of BMWs. I ended up selling the X5 due to financial reasons but told myself someday I would buy another bimmer. I am very happy with my TL which has pretty much been problem free since I bought it new in 2005.

When I was shopping for my car ever since I move to LA, my first choice was Lexus IS 250/350 or the more boring ES 350, however, after I test drove them, I couldn't take the Navigation from Toyota, same with Camry.

I fell in love with Honda/Acura's Navigation, which allows me to interact while driving, something I found it more useful...

I really do not understand why Toyota/Lexus Navigation are so hard to use, I understand their concern with safety, but, frankly speaking I found it more dangerous that you cannot use it while driving and have to stop to use it...

That's why for those out there, go test drive an Acura or Honda with Navi, and you'll have different look on Acura/Honda

The 3-series Bimmer coupe is the best looking BMW. Overall, BMW is not as reliable as Acura but it doesn't mean that you'll have any problems with your BMW. Congrats on your new ride, it looks sweet.

I have been debating to trade my type s in for the 335 for the past month. Although all that power to the rear wheels in Chicago's winters would suck big time, the rest of the year would be fantastic. The looks of the type s keep me from the trade. Whenever I park the car I always do a double take.

Dude, I love the shape and lines of 3G TL-S. It's just sexy...

Sure, 335 coupe is also sexy...

But if I were going to add or match all the gadgets of TL-s, I might end up with a price tag around 60K... (considering an all-wheel-drive 335 coupe).

Please keep us update with the reliability of you 335, i am looking for a used 335 sedan, too bad not too many used with manual tranny. 2008 model is still expensive, 2007 is cheaper but 1st model year... should i avoid it?
By the way if you mind telling us how much you pay? and what's the rpm at 80 mph 6th gear?

RPM at 80 mph is 2700. I am getting 30mpg off of that.

I have put on almost 3,000 miles already. So far so good... but the real test will be time. I took it in for the 30k mile service a little bit early. Dealer was super friendly, customer service oriented, etc. I was happy. Negative was no free cokes, as you get when you are at my acura dealer.

I am definitely enjoying driving it!

First year model has some downside to it on the 335, but if you're going to mod it appropriately, you will negate the downsides at that point. You can check out e90post.com or bimmerforums.com for more info. Both are pretty good sites. There is a lot of support for the 335.

I've been giving serious thought about an '09 335i E90 w/ M-Sport now that you can pick them up for just a little over invoice and the build time is reasonable, but the ongoing issues w/ the HPFP really have me concerned. I was hoping, after three years, that they would have solved the problem but I see some '09 owners are still having issues. I've got 70K on my 04 TL and it's been rock solid but I've aways wanted a BMW for some reason and I love the face-lifted 335i sedan (have two growing kids so the coupe really isn't an option). I think at this point I'll hold out until late summer before deciding what to do. Besides, details on the new 5-series should be out by then.
