Sold the Type-S
I sold the type-s. After the car got backed into in a parking lot, that was basically the last straw. My acura was not really that reliable unfortunately. But, you know what... that's fine. I ended up with a 335i coupe, which is a car I've had my eyes on since they came out in 2007. I thank to this commmunity. I don't think I can recommend acura to anyone anymore, but... if someone ends up buying one, I will definitely recommend them to this site. This site seems to have some of the most helpful people around of any auto site. Thank you!

Congrats on the 335i!
How was your TL unreliable as you describe? I've never heard you complain about it other than not liking FWD.

Sold mine too for a BMW last week. I already miss it a bit in some respects. My TL was bulletproof and I can tell you for sure the BMW will be less so....have you replaced your HPFP yet? I would recommend a TL to anyone.

to each its own, so in saying ur TL was not reliable then you must have gotten one bad TL out of a bundle...I am a BMW Tech and I can personally tell you that 335i are not the greatest thing either, matter of fact only thing I give credit to 335i over the TL-S is that it has a more powerful engine, but it also is twin-turbo and the TL-S is N/A,, so for me more respect to TL-S for making power N/A, interior of a TL-S is also 10times better looking than a 335i...Plus the price for a 335 compared to a TL-S, is no competition, In my opinion if you want overall well rounded car go with TL-S, if you want to own a BMW and pay alot of money and be a little faster in performance category go with BMW.....Just my 2 cents...If given a choice to change to a 335i sedan for my TL-S i would respectively deny....not hating the 335, because i do like that car, just want to let you know that 335 is not more reliable than a TL in no way, it all comes down to the owner and how they treat their car

well, most of mine friends that have bimmer have lots of electrical and climate issues... don't know if that's more reliable, I admit that bimmer 335i or 335xi engines are more poweful than TL-S'
but, considering bimmer's 335 engine's are turbo charge, if we had that in TL-S with SH-AWD in 3G TL, man, I think TL could take 335 anytime.
Besides, why people compare apple to orange?

122,000 miles and going strong. It's all how she is maintained.
Good luck with the BMW and yes it is a sweet car but don't think you are getting a reliable car from BMW. Have you ever seen Consumer Reports and looked at the reliability records on those cars? Black is the color...Not red like Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus.. Good luck with the car.

Cuz, I've notice that Mugen are like totally different, from engine, suspension, seats, exhaust, brake system, body...
I think Mugen SI is just regular SI with Mugen body kit, am I right?

I'm lost..
So let me get this straight. Because your car got back into, you got fed up with reliability issues, wont recommend it to anyone and sold it for a BMW? Not saying that getting a BMW was the wrong move, but your reasons for selling seem a bit off and maybe even a bit silly too. I don't think there's a reliability issue with the TL. It's a very popular car...very popular.
Anyways, your call..try maintaining your car better next time?
Enjoy the 335

Good luck with your new whip ....
On a lighter note, there used to be a NBP curse & now it seems to have spread to WDP as well .... LOL ... of course I'm still all smiles about my NBP here ...

My TL had a bunch of electrical issues, and other stuff. I bought it used, so maybe the owner before me didn't maintain it well, I dunno. Bluetooth would work maybe 50% of the time, nav screen died on me... free replacement from acura, check engine light came on for no apparent reason. Third gear was having issues, acura said that they wouldn't replace it, and that pissed me off. I didn't like fwd. Basically, the car was causing me undo stress. So, I decided to move on. I agree with some of the statements on here... I probably just got a bad one. But still... it's my experience with acura.
I bought the 335i used as well (off lease). We'll see if it's more reliable or not... but honestly it doesn't have much to live up to right now.
But... maybe people are different than me... I feel like I am a car enthusiast. So, just because it is different than mine, doesn't mean it's bad. Obviously I liked the TL-S (I bought one). It just didn't work out for me.
My initial impressions of the 335i are that it's awesome to drive. I feel like I can control the car a lot better not being fwd. I am still getting 30+mpg on the highway, life is good. No touchscreen is bad, but I feel quite comfy with the I-drive. And being able to control my ipod through it stock is a nice bonus.
Anyways, my whole message is no hard feelings... just letting you know what happened.

That's okay, I am happy. I bought the TL used, so I think the person before me didn't maintain it well...
I am definitely enjoying the 335i. Thanks!

I had 3 tranny failures in my TL-S (2002) ... and some of those failures caused me to be in VERY unsafe situations on the highway (locked up tranny at 80mph) and during left turns with on-coming traffic (tranny spinning and spinning, no go while in D5) .. and I thought and STILL think that model Acura is the most unreliable car in the world and basically a death trap. To someone who never had any issues with a 2002 Type S, they'd totally disagree with me.
Fortunately, the 2004 has been ok. But I totally see where the OP is coming from, and I feel his frustration.
Congrats on the 335i, would love to drive one of those one day.

Hey congrats man I love the 335i coupe!! I am actually considering a 335i convertible but I don't know yet, I am thinking the convertible vs. the coupe model is more like a chick car I will probably end up with a 335i coupe someday.

Those 3-series coupes do look sweet!
BTW, the op made clear that "MY" TL was unreliable - not the entire brand.
Good luck - enjoy it. I have a feel that you will hang around this forum.
