SOCAL Acura TL Price - should I pull the trigger?

Requested a quote for:
2004 Acura TL 5AT w/ NAV
Satin Silver Metallic
Quartz Leather
All-Season Floor Mats
Trunk Tray
Deck Lid Spoiler

This is the best quote I received so far:

Selling Price of TL $34,141.70
(Includes $570 destination charge,
wheel locks, paint polish and splash
guards at no extra charge)

Trunk Tray (our cost) $99.00
All-Season Floor Mats (our cost) $129.00
Deck Lid Spoiler (our cost) $577.00

Document Preparation Charge $45.00
Taxes $2,886.82
License $282.00
CA Tire Recycling Fee $5.00

Total $38,165.52

I know many say that because of the first year depreciation, I should wait on the 2005 models. Yet I plan to have this car at least 5 years and I drive about 20K miles a year plus I would be suprised if Acura didnt raise the MSRP for the 2005's.

I am not sure if I am getting much of a deal - so I thought I would ask the forum. Should I pull the trigger?

Well, best quote I got a couple weeks ago was $1000 off MSRP, so that looks about right. I just decided to wait though, since the discount wasn't all that impressive.

I didn't realize it came out to so much after taxes and license ;_; I figured I wouldn't need much more than 37k, shoulda done the math I guess.

High! since the 05's will be coming out soon. They should give it to you MSRP out the door

ToddL, welcome to the forum.

I dunno the real price range in West Coast, your quote looks high. Actually, it's very high for 04TL in Sep.

IMO, I still believe you could try to work out the similar dicsount to 05TL. Or wait until next month, you "might" get clearance 04TL price.

Trunk Tray - Some dealers don't charge for this.
Deck Lid Spoiler - $577 seems high
All-Season Floor Mats - Do you really need this?

Unless you need a new car right now, I would wait because the prices will drop once the demand slows down. Between Thanksgiving and February is a slow season where you'll have better luck finding a dealer willing to negotiate more.

Or, you could buy one now in New York for close to invoice...

BTW which dealer gave you the quote?

I am in they bay area and if you get anything more than 600 off MSRP then you are getting a pretty good deal. And that is right now even with 05 coming out soon. You are not going to get anything off sticker for an 05, so I would say it's not too bad. If I were you I would look out of state and have it shipped back or drive it back. That way you will save at least 1k probably more.

that is a bit high. i paid around 37K back in march when demand is higher and i didn't get any of the stuff you mentioned. what i got thrown free was the all season mats (which i always use) and the wheel locks. you should check other dealers. what dealer is giving you that price? you may be able to get another 1K off since it's a month away from the 2005

Thanks everyone for the reponses. I sent an email out to eight dealers and so far Thomas Acura (Covina, CA) has been the lowest. A few sent over 'we will match or beat the best price', but I told them that wouldn't. Though they are still welcome to send me over a quote.

As for the options - I had each of the dealer itemize the cost on those because i am not sold that I need any of them.

As for demand - the dealers all have the color and model that I want so I think demand is slowing somewhat. (At least until the 05's are released). My concern is that given the success of the 04 model, Acura would be justified in raising the MSRP for the 05. It would help them push out the remaining 04's and the 05's would still be a value in its class... (To my knowledge know one knows the MSRP for the 05's).

I will keep looking and keep everyone informed what I find. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them

Thanks
TL

To buy or not to buy, that's always the question. Accessories aside, the price on the car is slightly less than the internet quote I received for my car last month ($34,195). But my car was a 6MT/Navi/HPT and I understand that 5ATs should go for less than their 6MT counterparts, even with Navi since they're more plentiful. So you should have more room to negotiate. When my car arrived late last month, I got the price down to $33,800 (the dealer then took another $600 off when they ruined the car I was originally supposed to take). I imagine you should be able to do better since there's a greater supply of autos and the '05s are even closer.

I went in to discuss pricing the day the original car came off the truck. I should have aimed lower than $33,800, but since $34,195 was the best internet quote I'd seen in a while for So. Cali., that's all I asked for. I reasoned that the car wasn't even on the lot for 24 hours and they could still make a nice profit of $1,500+ not including any holdbacks. They gave that to me without a fuss. Whoops!

I'm certain they would be happy to sell it to him for MANUFACTURE SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE but I think he's looking for some type of discount. Did you mean to say "INVOICE" instead?

i dont think you saw the "out the door" after MSRP. That means whatever MRSP is inclusive of all TTL fees

TTL = Tax, Title and Lic

MSRP is $34,650.00 and $575.00 Destination. So I am getting $1,083.00 off the MSRP on the car and destination @ $34,141.00. Someone posted Invoice and Hold Back costs on this site - I just dont know where i saw the post.

Regardless - I think it is a subpar offer and I was hoping there would be a little more movement now that the 05's are going to be released. I have relatives in Colorado and Arizona - so maybe I will check dealerships in those areas. How does CA emmissions work? Would I need to pay extra once i get it in CA.

Again appreciate the responses. Any other suggestion would be

I sent out more internet quote request to dealerships in and round Mesa, AZ and Denver, CO. I will keep everyone informed what I get back.

Yourpoison - I was quoted $33,995.00 (Labor Day Only) from a Dealer here in California. Since I am in sales and take to hard sells to well, I crossed the dealership off my list. I think somewhere around 34K is an average price. I have seen people on this site claim that they have negotiated all the way down to the low 33K.

Here is what I got 4 weeks ago:

Anthricite/Quartz/Navi
Wheellocks
Trunk tray
All season floor mats
A-Spec (with yokohama tires) installed.

43k total with tax, etc. I got almost 4k for my trade in with 135,000 miles on it. So that brought the price to just under 40k.

I could have probably got this for a little less, but I wanted anthricite with quartz and navi. Plus I got more than I expected for my trade in. Hard to find this color combo!

It appears around 34K is the going price in the So Cal Area. I paid that much for 5AT/NAVI with matts, mudguards, wheel locks and trunk tray.

I picked up my 2004 5AT/Navi Silver/Ebony today in Austin:

TL - $33195.00
Tint, Rear Spoiler and Sunroof visor - 1088
Tax - 2142.69

I financed it all at 4.49% for 60 months, total interest amount is 4604. After my 10 year old Volvo 850 GLT this car is a real pleasure to drive let me tell you.I couldn't get my wife to go for the 6mt or the 18' wheels though, maybe in 10 more years.

I have expanded my search to Arizona and Colorado, where I have family, and the prices are relatively the same. The best internet prices in SoCal has been from Acura Pasadena, Santa Monica and Thomas Acura (Covina), though they all were in the low 34k's. I sent request to Pasadena, Thomas, Sierra, Downey, Metro, Cerritos, Weir, Keyes, Santa Monica, and Power. I will send out a few more requests and narrow the search down to 3 or 4 dealerships based on quoted internet price.

I have set a goal of 33.2 - 33.5K (Including destination) and will be visiting each of these dealers either Sunday or next week to try to hammer it down to what I want to pay.

I will keep everyone updated on the progress. Any other suggestions or dealerships I should look into would be appreciated.

Thanks
TL

Out of state

If you are going to buy from out of state, you'll have to go to the east cost to buy. NY and FL are two states where they are selling for near invoice or below.

I bought mine from Fort Lauderdale Florida on August 9th, paid 34,546 out the door including rim locks. Bought the mud guards for ~40 (they matched Curry Acura's internet price and I installed them myself).

My dad drove the car across country for me and I saved a couple thousand. The tickets to Florida will set you back about $200 or so.

The best So. Cal price I got was $34.5 with the pro package. With tax this ended up being almost 38k so I opted for out of state. The TL is 50 state emissioned so you won't have a problem.

If you want the dealer and salesman info, let me know. You might be able to get the car for cheaper now that the 05 is so close?

Later,

M

I'd imagine that the drive put a good 3000 miles on your car. Do you really think that's worth it? You probably could have had it shipped for under a thousand, right?

That's pretty good. Were the quick to offer that price, or did you have to fight with them a bit?

I have been offline for a couple days. Did they come out with the MSRP for the 2005's?

As for going as far as purchasing from the east coast - I would have them ship it to me rather than put that kind of mileage on the car. I see some people in Chicago are getting the 04's for 32.5+. Hey a least you cant beat the weather here in Cali.

Can you register your car in CA? I was told that DMV will not register new out of state vehicles with less than 7500 miles. Just wondering??!

Title/reg/price

Hi folks,

Sorry about the price, I made a mistake it was 35,546 out the door. The price before tax was $35,546. The price before tax/tags was $32,750 including Navi (650 over invoice).

The dealer is handling the CA reg/tags for me. I believe the CA law says that if a car is under 7500 miles it is considered brand new and it must be CA emissioned.

My dad did put about 3700 miles on the car, but he had a real nice time touring the southern half of the US and he loved the car and decided he wants to buy one for himself.

The way I reasoned it was if I have to pay over 38k for a 2004 model, as soon as I get it off the lot I'll be hit with depreciation since the 2004 model is almost gone and the 05's are coming soon. If I waited for an 05 model I would probably have to pay close to sticker which I wasn't willing to do.

By buying the car out of state I saved about $2200 and I put 3700 miles on the car. But 7 years from now when I sell the car the 3700 miles will be insignificant compared to another 04 model, but if I compare to an 05 model it will make a difference on the price. So I opted to put the miles on the 04 rather than pay the extra $2200 for the 04 model in So. Cal.

I also had the option of shipping for about $1200 and I still would have saved $1000 but we were going on a family vacation to FL and my dad offered to drive the car back and take an extended vacation so I went ahead and let him do this.

I was also kind of ticked off at all the So. Cal dealers since they didn't event want to budge on the price. I offered 34k to keys for the car and they didn't take it. I talked with several so. cal dealers and they had lists of people waiting for Navi's. Also most dealers didn't have the color combo I wanted for an ABP w/ grey interior. I got fed up with the So. Call crap and just went out of state.

I originally got a quote from the guy at the dealer for $33,000 even but I eventually got him down to $32,750. I believe you could probably do better but I was tired of negotiating and the best I had done in CA was $34,500 at the time.

Good luck,

M

out of state match

Hi PG2G,

I tried that a while back but they wouldn't. But at this point, I think it might work since you'll be putting the price at about $32,750 +1200 = $33,950 or so. I've heard people getting the car for around $34k or so.

Good luck.

Out of state

You guys might want to get together and do a group deal and have all the cars shipped over on a carrier. You could probably get the cost down to 700 per car if you fill the carrier.

The dealer I bought from is the largest Acura dealer in the nation, you can check out their inventory at www.rickcaseacura.com Their online inventory shows 92 TL's in stock right now. They pretty much have every color combo you can think of.

If you want my sales guy and details of the deal, PM me.
