Just an update - but we are still waiting on some other dealers. So far the best offer, out of the three that has gotten back to me with an actual quote, it has been $1000.00 off MSRP. Most of the comments is that this is the first time this has been done and they are telling me that they will attempt to match what other dealerships are doing. I think the dealers are a little unsure what they should do. Again my target price is around 34K - so that is what I am fighting for...

I sent Evil Genius a PM to get some more info on his deal, so hopefully he gets back to us soon.

I will try to update everyone daily - so hopefully we can make a decision soon.

Thanks
TL

If you're still adding buyers, I'm in for Anthracite/Ebony/AT/Non-Navi. Planning to buy in the next 30 days.

Thanks.

Evil, can you get your quote in writing? too often the dealers seem to have "selective" memory. Its ridiculous.

Hey ToddL,

I was thinking maybe you should name your price. And lets go for something low like 32500 or 33,000. I dont want to work with their price and move down. Tell them, you can have X number of buyers if you can get it at this price. Then they can counter offer. Everythiing past the invoice is profit plus the hold back. You might even mention to them that you received 1500 off MSRP from cerritos. But I would use that on my second or third contact with them. I think they will drop faster if they see how low your asking price is. My two cents.

I thought about going in at $500.00 above invoice - but this is what I was told from Pasadena Acura who flat out refused to bid. After refusing to bid on our ‘Powerbuy’ he explained that his dealership was too small to handle that type of request and that we should really focus on the larger or out of the way dealerships.

I guess Honda/ Acura pre-determines the number of cars that each dealership will get based on their current sales volume and size. The only thing the dealership has control over is the model and color make up of their shipment. I am not positive, but I would assume a dealerships allotment is based on quarterly estimates, which would explain the initial availability issues on the 2004 model. Now a smaller dealership, like Pasadena Acura, has a certain number coming in this month. They already know the ‘popular’ colors and options, which most of our requests reflect, and have already committed to their color combinations for this and the next shipment. They also know that they will sell the car within two weeks taking delivery. Therefore, according the internet/ fleet manager at Pasadena, it wouldn’t make financial sense to go much below MSRP.

Again this was the first time he ever came across this sort of offer and that delayed his response until today. He had to discuss it with someone higher than him before a decision could be made. Anyway – his suggestion was to focus on larger dealerships or out of the way dealerships. He even suggested sending quotes to out of state dealerships, where the TL doesn’t have as much of as large of a market.

Our current best quote – based on at least 3 or more commitments is $34,470.00. I have gotten quote from Downey, Weir, Pasadena (Declined) and Alhambra. Tomorrow I will call the rest to see if they are going to submit a bid. If anyone has any suggestions or is willing to help, I would be glad to get you all the information I have sent and accumulated so far.

Thanks
TL

ToddL,

I am ready to purchase a 2005 TL, Anthracite Metallic/Quartz/5AT/NAVI/No Sales Tax or License. I live in the Scottsdale, AZ, and will register and pay sales tax at the AZ MVD. Any Southern Cal dealer is fine. I will pick up in person and transport vehicle.

If east coast if cheaper after paying the $800 or so transport charges (door to door), that is fine by me also. You can even use 2 dealers to fill the orders quickly.

Bobopowr: I don't have the price quote in writing since I didn't go down to Cerritos to meet with him or anything. I just spoke to him over the phone and faxed my contact info/car spec/color to him. I do know 2 other people who spoke to the manager and got the same type of quote and instruction. Basically I'm trusting the guy in Cerritos Acura on my instinct...I've got nothing to lose since I did't put any money down at all. The only bad thing about this is that I have to wait a few weeks to see if the deal goes through at all...

Info from Monica from Weir Canyon regarding Cerritos 1500 MSRP offer

Hi Todd,
It sure sounds like an aggessive deal I can't argue. But, I just hope that they're willing to fulfill their word. I'll tell you this by personal experience. I had a referral from our General Sales Manager who purchased a TL with Navigation from me earlier this year. He knew the General Manager at Cerritos and waited and waited for his $1,000 discount from MSRP on the 2004 (again earlier this year). After about four months of no vehicle showing up supposivedly, he purchased the car from us. He realized that they had been selling the car to others who offered more money for it (and they could) because of the first-come first-serve policy and not being able to take deposits on incoming cars.
I look forward to working together and I'm sure that you'll be pleased with our services.
I'll give you a call soon.

I wouldn't recommend Weir Canyon. I went there and showed them an offer in writing from another dealer and they wouldn't budge on charging full MSRP.

Cerritos does not take deposits – but will place individuals on a Priority backorder list (first come first serve). They will need your name, number, address, drivers Lic and SS #. When your model comes in stock – they will call you based on your priority level and give you an option to purchase the vehicle. If at that time you are not ready to purchase it will go to the next in line and you will be offered the next that comes in. Again we need at least 13 buyers – otherwise they will have to renegotiate our cost…

In other threads, members have purchased their 2005 TLs for near $33,000. That still leaves plenty of profit for the dealer. And that is a single purchase! A group purchase should do better. I understand the market is hot in California. Have you considered AZ, NV or UT?

Beware the "document fees" or "dealer fees" which are totally made up, off the wall, additional dealer profit. After you think you have negotiated a price, they will pull these bogus fees out at the last minute just to boost their profit. You must make sure the price you are quoted INCLUDES all fees except for sales tax and state fees for licence transfers. Even in the tag fees, they can add something for themselves for "handling" charges.

"Doc fees" are an invention of the dealers to increase their profit. It's like the Emperor's New Clothes. They are often pre-printed on the order form to make you believe they're non-negotiable. I either cross them off before signing or insist the discount is increased by the same amount.

It's total

I Agree - but Southern California Dealers do not want to deal on these. If you look at most California purchasers, you will be hard pressed to find anything much below MSRP. Dealers know that for every deal they make - 5 others purchase at MSRP, so there is no incentive for them to negotiate.

My hope is that if we can pool together on this deal, it will eventually force other dealers to start competing. I thought about going out of state, but for $500.00 - $700.00 savings, it doesn’t seem worth it. Especially if there is a problem.

As for the Doc fees – Cerritos original offer was for $1500.00 below MSRP + Doc fees ($45.00). I told them I didn’t want to pay the doc fees, so they went $1500.000 above invoice ($1600.00 off MSRP) to cover the difference.
