SO, i was sick of the getting the glue on my tint

SO since it has warming up here in Chicago when i roll my windows up or down the stupid Tint Protector trip would cause glue streaks on my window, i'm talking like big nasty glue marks streeks

So i came up with a solution . cost me 50 cents each for a piece of felt from Michaels. i wraped it around the weather strip and it is held in when the weather stip is in place. see pics. this works great and no more GLUE !!!

I like the idea. I have also had problems in the past with the glue streaks. I found that in my case, part of the problem was that I installed the moleskin before I had the widows tinted. The tinting process, pushing the tint down at the bottom of the window and the moisture, can cause problems with the moleskin. I also didn't do a good job of prepping the window swipes......just cleaned them, didn't [lightly] sand them. Anyway, fixed my problem windows and haven't have a problem since.

Anyway, is only one side of the felt you used anchored? I see the one side is in the swipe track, but does the other side just hang free? It seems like it would be fine and work well, just wondering if it could pull out when putting the windows up.

Good work, I can see a bunch of people taking this approach.

Can you post up a DIY? Type of felt, size you cut, how you installed it, etc. That would be very helpful. Great idea. I have the same problem.

^... i had no idea wtf i was doing and was able to put the moleskin weatherstrip on all 4 doors.

Hard part was finding that there's a screw right under the rest on the door. You need about a 6 inch philips driver to reach it.

I used Goo Gone on my windows for the glue. After a while I think it ran out of glue and I quit getting the streaks.

Just did this mod a couple days ago and it works awesome! not much of a DIY to write up, pretty straight forward once you pull the rubber piece off and look at how to cover it. No chance of scratching with this. Im still baffled how the stock piece can scratch so bad on other cars, its just smooth rubber against the window to begin with. But it did put one streak in my passenger window so I know it can scratch w/o being covered up.

I don't think it's actually the rubber that scratches the tint but any dirt that gets in there that does it.

i am having my windows tinted next week and plan to do moleskin or this homemade version. I believe the best way to install the moleskin is to install similar to the OP. Do not install it in strips, wrap it around just like above. It was mentioned in a different thread regarding moleskin and I believe the poster showed pics.

Have the Tint Protector moleskin on my weatherstrip for the past 6+ weeks...put on about a week after got my windows tinted.

Temps have been in the 90's in at least 10 days over the past 2 weeks with high humidity...haven't seen a speck of glue of my windows...and have used the windows quite a bit. Hope it stays that way.

Just completed this mod. Took 2 hrs on the driver's panel because I was pulling up and not out on the panel. I found it easier to loosen the whole panel and set the top panel on the window strip. Passenger door took me 15minutes ( learning curve). Well worth the time and cost effective. I used 9x12 felt sheets from Joanns Fabrics that were priced @ .25cents each.

I kept A-ZIners in mind when taking these pics (HTC Camera)

I am an automotive tinter. for a diy fix , nice job .. You shoulda took it back to place who tinted and put the felt on the first time and had them fix it. Another thing you can do is cut the lower flap off of the strip. It doesnt need both of them. Thats the flap that actually scratches the film. How did you adhere it , i believe you said you just have it tucked and pressure fit .. Looks like you used a few pieces to cover the whole strip . Thats kinda shotty cause i can see the split , but it is a diy .. Try and find some longer felt to wrap it in one piece the same length as the strip ..

Ah the second pic is the strip w the shotty felt placement. It needs to be tucked around those two flaps , like you did. Good job. Just hope it stays since it isnt adhered..

lol dont do that bro , its not good on the film. Unless you want faded purple tint ha .. Foaming Window cleaner non ammonia and a micro fiber will take the glue right off the film..

Wow , they really sent your car out without felt on the seals ? wow ! Your lucky your windows arent trashed . Our rubber seals will sctrath the crap out of the film. Hence the purpose of the felt..

Pressure fit, My tinter up his price to $100 so said forget it. The felt is nice and snug and doesnt budge. In terms of cutting out the flap, I decided not to with the thought of additional road noise. There is a small slit in-between, but it doesnt effect the tint, so no worries. I must admit, it was someone tuff keeping the felt in place, but everything was tucked.

.. Thats rediculous .. They make a special felt for us to use on cars. Its sticky on the back side of the felt. So its not gonna make it thicker like adding 3M tape on some felt lol .. Its about 20-40 a roll and you can order it online from a tint supplies site..

I just finished this mod an hour ago. I too took about 45 minutes on the driver side front window, and about 20 mins on the passenger side. I did mine like the op and wrapped the whole track with the felt. I bought a strip of 36" x 36" and that was plenty for all four windows. Cost was $3 at Michaels.

Indeed, This is the reason why I'm not complaining for a job that cost me $2.00. May not be perfect, but my tint will no longer scratch! I started to fixed the slit, but after testing the windows with success... why bother?

I wanted to grab a yard of felt, but when I seen 15people in line waiting for their fabrics to be cut, I opted for the 9x12's.

Wow . Eff that guy lol .. Ive had to re felt a TL before a couple yrs ago . It was the first one i did and i did the felt the same as him and it did the same thing. Rewrapped it all the way around for them and its good. Thats how ive done the rest ive done and none have ever came back. I do charge like 20 bux a window for felt on top of the tint price tho. Not twice lol if a customer comes back w an issue .

You know if everything was upfront and priced together, I woudnt have mind. But when I went back, it was like I was getting fee'd to death.

Removed felt fabric and installed moleskin. As I was walking out to my car one day, I notice the door panel wasn't flush with the door. I've had great results with moleskin and have had not seen any streaks. I think steaks are only an issue if you cut the moleskin in half.. Lastly, I do think moleskin is wayyyyyyy overpriced, but it gets the job done.

Why not wrap the entire door strip with Craft store felt, and underneath use 3M spray adhesive to hold it in place. Spray glue where it doesnt touch the window.
