So I got my D4 today...

As the title states, I got my D4 today from a local shop near my house for about $115 for a case. I told the owner (he seemed very knowledgeable about Redline) that I was going to do a 4X3 drain and refill with the D4. He then asked my mileage, and I told him 45k.

He said that there was a specialty transmission shop (they usually work on race cars) near the area that does complete flushes. (I know complete flushes are bad) He said that with my low mileage, that I would be fine doing a flush, but after the flush I should only do drain and refill. I asked about the flush, and the way he described it, it seemed like it doesn't pump the fluid out. Instead its almost like as they are draining the old fluid out, they add the new oil in. He said the advantage to this was getting all of the old crappy Z1 out.

I was really confused by this because I thought that's how all flushes work, and I was just wondering if this type is different.
He seemed to know what he was talking about, but then again so does IHC and inaccurate. Should I just do a 4X3 or should I listen to this guy and do this "good flush" that supposedly won't harm my car?

There are two ways to do a flush...
One way, is to use a machine that sucks the fluid out, which is bad...
The other, is to disconnect to Output and Input lines to the tranny fluid cooler, and attach the inlet to a big container with gallons of fluid... Then when you start the car, it starts spitting out old fluid, while sucking in new fluid. This shouldn't be bad, because it's not doing anything the tranny isn't already doing. (So long as you don't get air in the inlet)... However, I'm not sure if the TL has an external tranny cooler...

Thanks for your quick response! It seems like he described the second one to me, so I'll do some more research on it, and I call the shop again (hopefully this time they'll answer) to make sure that's what they'll do. Thanks again!

I think if you read the vast majority of threads here you will fine that most people favor a series of 1x3 over a flush. I tend to stay away from flushes. I did my 3x3 over a couple months. I'm not saying that you should do that, but I recommend you reading what a lot of the other folks have said on this.

I know most people favor the 3X3, I was trying to see if the flush the guy recommended was different than a normal flush (which it isn't). The shop that the redline guy recommended finally answered my call, and I asked them what their procedure was for the transmission flush. He said "well, we pump the old fluid out.." and as soon as I heard this I stopped listening and said thank you politely and hung up the phone. so ya I'm just going to start (and hopefully finish if I have time) my 3X3. Thanks RaviNJCLs!

Good call. I did a week or two in between each drain and fill with the D4. Very satisfied with it!

I finished the 3X3 last night and I am super impressed. My car shifts so much smoother, and the tranny is way more responsive. I'm defiantly happy with the results. But the old fluid was just pure black and there was defiantly some metal residue on the drain plug. But the best thing of all was the elimination of the double "clunk" when I went from park to reverse! I am so glad that I put redline in my car!
