So I call a place to get my fenders rolled...

...And I briefly discuss the process with the guy. He tells me that chipping/cracking the paint is pretty much unavoidable even when using heat, "especially" with hondas. He said he has done a bunch of s2k's and whatnot and the chipping happens more often than not. Is this true? Are our cars known to have paint issues? He told me it's all about the mix of the paint and that these things dont happen to other cars that usually get fender rolling done...
I'm wondering if the guy was being truthful or just didn't like dealing with honda/acura... If the guy was being truthful I'm wondering if there is a safer/better way to get it done... hmm...

Chipping/cracking paint does happen, same as any car.

You could roll your own with a heat gun and a baseball bat. J/K!! It sounds like he doesn't want the business so take it elsewhere.

Yessur. The way i figure it, I've rolled 0 fenders in my life vs. the shop thats done hundreds if not thousands. My moneys on them to do a better job of avoiding chipping the paint!

diy...if your patient and careful, it will come out fine.

I know your nervous, i recently did it, it was my first time...it came out fine...I heated with heat gun until about 150-160f, (had an laser thermometer) had rolled little (like 2inch sections) at a time. no cracking.

besides, no one will be as careful with ur ride as u will be!

I did it myself with a bat and heat gun...came out ok...ended up paying to have it professionally done. Would recommend going that route and I'm a DIY'er...Although, I will say, it ain't rocket science...
The whole point of heating the paint is to MAKE it pliable so you DON'T chip/crack it.

Well Im in NY and I had a guy that rolled my back fenders, Kid actually worked at a Honda dealer and No chips or cracks in the paint.

But now I need the front rolled a bit, and he is MIA. Shoot me a PM if you find anybody reputable to do the job. THx.

many people have done it without chipping, but quite a few have also had it chip on them, completely depends on the car/history/ and procedure

just beaware OP, even a professional has a chance of the paint chipping on them also (less likely though, but still there though)

Yea he's right, the kid who did mine would get tons of appointments and he told me it depends on whether or not that part of the car had been touched by a body shop of not. He said the bondo shops use cracks during the rolling process.

Depends on how much of a roll or flare you need done. I can confirm the chipping on the S2k is pretty common (both from extreme rolling or tire previously catching the fender then trying to roll after the fact). There is always a risk of cracking the paint no matter who does it.
